  • Which colour temperature is best for running at night?

    • +7

Did some research and it appears that light with lower colour temperature has comparatively higher CRI and penetrates better through rain etc.

        • +12

Whilst more lumens is important, when there are particles in the air - mist or rain for example - lower colour temperatures refract slightly less and therefore penetrate better. This is why Fog Lights are typically more into the yellow part of the visible spectrum.

          • +3

@Felixrising: this is true, just like foglight on my range rover are yellow instead of bright white.

          • -1

@Felixrising: Fog lights work by getting below the fog line my fog lights as with most are the same colour temp as the headlights.

            • @aussieprepper: Yes and no.

Yellower lights tend to penetrate further through fog and rain. If you look at Airports and Ports planes are equipped with yellow lighting as well as there being yellow floodlights on the ground.

Yes white light output from LED's is more efficient if white, however it doesn't have the penetration of yellow lighting.

      • Colour temperature is actually independent of CRI.

This headlamp might flop up and down when running due to the large battery.

It's kind of a personal preference @ colour temperature.

Warm colour temperatures are good for fog.

I personally prefer a cooler colour temperature for identifying stuff. Warm colour temperatures just throw me off when it comes to identifying what's up ahead (i.e when hunting).

As aussieprepper mentioned, LEDs in flashlights with a cooler colour temperature generally have a longer beam distance (distance=sqrt(candelas / 0.25)).

      • +1

What do you hunt at night?

      • Agree. As a task light id much prefer a cooler colour too.

    • I have both a HS41 in 5000k and a HS10 in 2700k and much prefer the 5000k as I find it easier to "see". I wouldn't want a cooler light but that's just preference.

    • i prefer more white over yellow when the weather is clear, and yellowish in the fog or rain like my vehicle.

    • My Petzl colour temp is 6000-7000K and I love it. Colour temp is entirely subjective though.

  • fk i have too many torch already
any deal on the Sofirn SC33?

  • Thanks op, got one.
Hope this arrives before I forget about it.

    • Aliexpress items usually reach within 10 to 12 days since a few months.

    • +9

It's more fun if they arrive after you forget.

        Little gift for future me

    Amazon has it for $34.89
There seems to be discount codes for 30-35% for various lights.

    • No tint mentioned though.

    • Link? Can't seem to find it…

    • link? can't find it anywhere on amazon

    • Appears to be the SP40

  • Shows $31.36 for me on my statement - thanks OP! Have been waiting for one of these that have USB-C port instead - the other one posted earlier last week still used Micro USB

  • Are these useful as a bike headlight? Anyone have recommendations for mounting to handlebars?

    • Sure it could be. Cable ties would work well

Anyone know of a good tail light for the bike?

    • Sofirn has this for bicycle

      • Thanking you

  • +9

Nobody on this site needs this, none of them go outside

    • +2

When the power goes out in the basement they need it.

    • +4

I need one for going up in the roof. Technically still inside.

    • Since direct to boot pickup you're probably right.

    • +2

these types of head torches are unreal for working on cars

    • Correct. I need this to crawl around in the roof cavity of my house.

  • Thanks Op.

    Codes finished. Spewin

  • Hmmm.
Better than half a price of Olight Perun 2 I was looking at yesterday.
What is a built quality of these?

My Olight Perun started playing up after 6 years of use. Olight warranty is 5 years.

    • Try contact olight anyway, they might be able to help still.

      • Did not have much luck on the Chat.
        May try call them.

  • +1

Have this light and love it but it is a bit bulky but can always use the short tube and a smaller battery to make it more compact (or get a HS10 and take the hit to battery life)

  • +1

4k lumens at this price? Sure…

    • Agreed it's likely not hitting 4000 lumens and if it was it would fade pretty quickly, but if it hits 2000 lumens it will be more than enough for any purpose I can think of. Probably overkill for most TBH.

  • +1

    Code doesn't work anymore.

  • They have corrected the error.

AU$24.83 off for orders over AU$310.34 instead of AU$31.03

    • Over $310?
      They are dreaming

  • yeah it's not working anymore.

  • How you guys get A$31.03? I paid A$32.76

  • Does anybody really use rechargable lights in tended outdoor conditions (as implied by the product photo)?

Cause it's not like you can pop in fresh AAs once they go flat.

Oh, this one looks like you can pop in a new cylindrical lithium.

    • +1

If you're meaning rechargeable torch as in one that doesn't have a replaceable/removable battery, you could always take a small power bank with you if you think you're going to use it enough make it go flat.

But as you say, this one does have a removeable battery, so just take a spare 21700 with you.

Otherwise, it should last for ages on the lower power settings anyway with a 21700 size battery.
