EnergyAustralia: Cashback for New Sign Ups ($270 Gas+Elec, $155 Elec Only, $115 Gas Only) + $50 Credit on 1st Bill @ Cashrewards

570

Decent deal if looking to switch providers or move home. Rates are reasonable to what I was paying with Origin/AGL but not as cheaper as the smaller retailers. Bonus there’s $100 credit ($50 per supply type) as well which comes off first bill.

This would mean you have to stay for 180 days ?

    • +1

I believe so based on previous cash reward deals. That would be a couple bill cycles so you need to work out the rebates vs the rates you will be paying to see if works out

Not a bad deal for gas only since it takes 3 months to switch anyway.

        • Takes 3 months to switch? That's ages!

          • @Alzori: They need to manually read the meter?

            • @slankets: I don't remember it taking that long when I've changed to different retailers, and I frequently compare offers and jump ship as appropriate. I think they usually do a special meter read.

Maybe it's different in different states?

      • $200 credit for me postcode 2290 NSW.

  • +8

For me the rates are so prohibitively expensive that the cashback would have been erased before the 6 month waiting period.

  • +2

That is a very expensive plan

    Off-peak - After 21% discount 22.67 c/kWh - we currently pay 17.347 c/kWh
    Peak - After 21% discount 38.96 c/kWh - we currently pay 33.055 c/kWh

    Gas - After 21% discount 3.39 c/MJ - we currently pay 3.072 c/MJ

Who are you with, what State? What about supply charges? EA are better for me than Simply Energy in NSW but not for solar. Being Autumn, considering the switch for $270 cashback and $200, not $100, sign up credit from EA.

      • +1

        Origin Energy, Victoria, Ausnet, Multinet

        Supply charges
EA Electricity After 21% discount $1.0468 per day - we currently pay 100.837 c/day
EA Gas After 21% discount $0.8654 per day - we currently pay 73.450 c/day

    • +1

You're on really good pricing for ausnet in victoria though, if I try to sign up with Origin the rates are slightly worse than the EA rates on ausnet in vic.

      • +1

It's a 27% discount to the VDO with Origin which is better than the 21% discount that EA is offering.

  • $100 each power source for postcode 2290 NSW.

  • Just moved away from Energy Australia as they upped my gas rates which would cost me $80 more a QTR. No way.

  • Wow, looks like extra $200 in NSW?

    $200

in sign-up credits off your first bill. $100 for electricity and $100 for gas.

New and moving NSW residential eligible customers only. Conditions apply. Limit of one $100 credit (inc. GST) per new energy account, per customer address with selected plans. We may change or end this offer at any time. Credit is not transferable or redeemable for cash. We also have a standing offer which is available below.

    • I have been with them before and will sign up in my wife’s name.

      • New normally means coming from a different provider not completely new

I was only with them last quarterly gas bill

Apparently you might get rejected if the account name is different so the one you coming from

        • Their conditions state entirely new, unlike mobile with Boost, Kogan, etc but like Macquaire Bank and savings account.

  • is this company just down south or something? dont seem to be in qld?

    • They are in qld

  • Is this only for the specific plan option that I get from CR link? That plan has no variable tariffs while there are many other plans Energy Aus offer that have off peak options for my address.

    • +1

When you type your address in it should show the actual rates for your house. When I checked it just showed flat rate, but then when I put my actual address in it showed me peak and off peak options as that’s how my meter is set up.

      • Thanks, it was only in the last confirmation step that it showed variable tariffs. Also weird but I had to list someone else who could access the account, maybe I accidentally selected an option for another account holder but it certainly wasn't intentional, anyway my secondary email seemed to keep it happy.
It seems a cooling off period applies to new connections so at least I can confirm during the week what exactly I've signed up for!

        • Hmm that’s strange I didn’t have to list any second person, maybe you clicked something? Should all be ok any issues just call them on Monday any changes made to your account I.e email or secondary contact, won’t affect the cash back being paid to you. Glad you were able to see your variable rates. I like variable rates to I use most my power at off peak times so I need that

  • Damn. Switched about a week ago for $112 combined. Nice deal OP

    Beware

Cashback is ineligible on the following:
    Returning EA customers for the same premises;

    • Thanks - missed that cheeky little gotcha

    • What about under a different name same premises?

  • Definitely calculate overall 12-month spend, and note this offer comes and goes - I took this offer when prices last went up across the board last August.

This cashback offer and the rate I'm on worked out cheapest over 12 months for me, YMMV.

  • I signed up NBN through Cashrewards, no track, disappointed.

  • Any clever way to take advantage if already with Energy Australia?

  • +2

I think AGL has lower rates.

    • I moved away from EA to AGL recently due to better rates and signup bonus (NSW)

  • Already switching from AGL to Simply (Gas) and Origin (Elec). I'll switch again once I get my transfer bonuses/credits.

  • +1

Essentially you can get $470 in NSW in 6 months

    • Too juicy to pass on eh?
      Thanks OP

  • Crap deal (for my area anyway), but it did prompt me to check again on the energy Vic website and find a better gas deal to change to! So that's something.

  • Payout is 180 days = stay with EA for 6 months, these day stay with the same company more then the credit offer is not wise. used to jump once a while, then once a year and how jump from bill by bill to get the sign up bonus.

  • Won't neg but the maths doesn't work out compared to being with a smaller retailer for me at least.

  • For anyone with low energy usage + relatively high export rates (probably on a 5 KW inverter though), the solar max plan was better than our current OVO plan (OVO reduced the feed in earlier this year).

Anyone know how fast the cashback tracks? I'm not sure whether to be concerned that my CR hasn't tracked, but it's only been <1 hour.

    • Tracked time is 14 days

      • Thanks, will keep an eye out then

  • The prices are on a heavier side (atleast by 15% on Gas - after the 23% discount) than my existing connection with a smaller company, but the 100$ credit on each and the CB cash back makes it sweet.

  • I made the switch then received call from Origin with a better counter offer. Same cash back with lower rates. Thanks OZB!

  • +2

Switched during promo in Jan, Here's my timeline:

    15/01: Order placed
    16/01: Tracked in Cashrewards
19/04: Cashback available to be withdrawn

Didn't have to wait 180 days.

  • +1

Made the switch from AGL and got offered $600 credits and lower rates. Thank you!

  • Has anyone done this and have their cash back tracked? I'm getting close to the 14 days upper bound and haven't had it track

    • Mine was tracked practically within 1 hour and I could see it reflected in my account.

      • Nice, I'll have to chase mine up
