I'd like to know what people are using as a bag for their laptop in carry-on luggage.
Looking at purchasing one that is not too expensive and large enough to carry extra items when needed (e.g. some clothes, other gadgets etc if doing a 1-2 day hike).
A backpack but I'd use it as carry -on luggage
I use a pouch for my laptop and then take whichever carryon I feel like. This can be a backpack, shoulder bag or wheeled suitcase. The bag I use depends on what I’m traveling for.
If I’m taking clothes it will be a shoulder or wheeled case. With checkin luggage I use a shoulder bag, no checkin then either a shoulder or wheeled one depending on how much stuff I take
I use Dell Pro Backpack 15 – PO1520P but honestly any laptop backpack will serve you well.
A laptop backpack, what I always carry on for holidays with laptop, a few spare clothes and gadgets. I used to have a suitcase with a laptop spot on it when I travelled a lot for work, a bit like this - https://www.amazon.com.au/Luggage-Lightweight-Hardshell-Suit… - but looks oversized for a hike. I decided to not be that arsehole though and just check my bags in and travel as light as possibly on the plane instead.
If you're flying on any single piece airlines, the 50L bag is worth considering; like North Face Base Camp Duffel Small (50L), Patagonia Black Hole Duffel 55L, Helly Hansen Duffel Bag 2 50L. Fjällräven maxes out at 36L. If you're after a more messenger bag style, I'm a fan of Timbuk2.
I have a load of expedition-style duffels including the two larger TNFs, and no way would I use a duffel for the OP's requirements- they won't hold laptops safely, they are shite as backpacks.
I've used a Timbuk2 messenger bag as carry-on, it's okay but not great. Also not very good security for a travel bag to iffy destinations.
At this point, I don't really understand OP's requirements… hiking with a laptop??
There are some fairly decent day hiking packs that come with laptops sleeves. 2 days seems wishful thinking though.
But yeah, the wish list is pretty damn vague.
Best travel carry-on I've ever had was a Peak Designs 30L. Takes a laptop, tablet, has pockets well suited to passport/wallet, has very good side access.
Only shortcoming is that it's not great for hiking with the shoulder strap design.

This carry on is really good it does as laptop bag as well. I used to go at overseas and is the best i ever used.

As others have said - a laptop backpack.
Some years ago work provided us with exactly what you are after … Essentially a normal sized backpack, but has a specific pouch to fit a 15 inch laptop.
Have seen similar on eBay for $30 or so.
