Eastern Melbourne House Demolition Recommendations?

Hi All, We are about to demolish a 1970's single storey brick house in Surrey Hills 3127.
Can anyone can recommend a reliable and trustworthy company to demolish the house?
Any advice and recommendations would be appreciated.

Dunno anyone in Melbourne but make sure you clear out all valuables prior if theyre too lazy to salvage it. See way too much being dumped that people are chasing for retro renos

    • doors
    • lights
    • wood panels
    • tiles especially if italian or johnson
    • high quality carpet
    • Original kitchens/bathrooms
    • things like bars etc
    • Carpet??eeww

The house next to ours (1930s california bungalow) had gorgeous vintage axminster carpet.

    • Where would you recommend I sell that type of stuff…FB Market Place?

Yes. Offer it for free. People will remove /salvage more.

These days Demolition companies just bulldoze everything. No recycling at all.

Im assuming you're near wattle park.

FB Marketplace but if you have real stand out stuff, there's a Retro group on FB where all us crazies hang out desperate for stuff.

Sounds mad but I'll give you an example - this week, I saw a Public Trustee place for sale (demo price). On the wall, super rare 1970 Italian mirror - $20k+ retail price. Spoke with agent and it's getting removed. It 100% would have been dumped otherwise.

People assume because it's not 'atomic' retro, it mustn't be worth anything. Not true.

    • It is 1970s. The only stuff that might be valuable would be the roof tiles and bricks to be reused.

70s stuff won't come into fashion for like another 20 years. Flare jeans tried to make a come back like 10 years ago for a brief 6 months.

Pro Tip: Always double check the address of the house to be demolished and the address for the invoice. Easy to mix up.

    Who does your builder recommend?

  • Put on stalkerbook your having a party…. should be complete in hours.

  • OzBargain party

  • Just rent it out or leave it sit for squatters!

Guaranteed demolished within a couple years :P

  • Throw wild parties there for a few weeks first, if it's being demolished anyway then anything goes.

Any chance you have wooden curtain rods, brackets and finials? I’m trying to find a match for my eastern suburbs 70s house, 2.2 metres in length incl finials. I have all of them but one room :)

Get that real estate agent lady that drives her car through houses & then claim on your house insurance

  • I was recommended Dig Dig by a colleague and was very happy with them.

I made thousand of dollars by selling stuff before demolition. Once the gas and elec. were disconnected I took heaps pf photos and placed ads on facebook and gumtree saying everything is for sale - need to bring your own tools and remove it. Sold all sort of stuff including stuff I though was junk - doors, windows, electrical and plumbing fittings, shower screens, water heater, old oven, kitchen cupboards, central heating unit, floorboards, even plants from the garden. A lot of it was ugly 70s stuff., and a lot of the people were landlords and maintenance people wanting cheap stuff to replacing broken things in rental properties

  • Joke awnser: Just tell Rio Tinto there's Iron under it.

Only slightly more helpful actual awnser: Most people will never hire a demolition company in their lives and most people in Melbourne aren't on Ozbargain, so you're going to get a pretty limited number of real awnsers. Best you can do is ask your builder if there is someone they recommend and get a few quotes.
