Ring in the Year of the Dragon with one of the world's most celebrated wines.

The first commercial release of Grange coincided with the Year of the Dragon, bringing a unique sentiment to this release.

Continuing an unbroken lineage from the very first experimental release, the 2019 Grange is full-bodied, powerful, and perfectly balanced - a gift that is sure to be treasured for years to come.

Since the first experimental vintages, the mandate for Grange has remained the same – to craft Australia’s greatest red wine from the best shiraz fruit of the vintage.

This ambition drives its impeccable consistency, with each release revealing subtle distinctions.

2019 Grange has been likened by the Penfolds winemaking team to those originally crafted by Max Schubert.

It has also been posited as a decennial sequence – set to follow in the footsteps of the now highly revered 2009, 1999 and 1989 vintages.

Each a wine of power, precision and immense cellaring capability.

2019 – bounding in its youth, with decades still to unravel.

I think this advertisement is targeting the wrong audience

    • Was thinking the same. This reads just like an ad, not a bargain

      • Does it come in large casks?

    • lunar new year has come and gone, this is old stock …
wrong audience ? depends if you are into chinese new year or not.

TWE very optimistic thinking all the Penfolds Bin's and Grange they have sitting around are going to be sold now that China has opened back up. Most of the premium stuff moves through Hong Kong anyway (which weren't affected by the tariff's) and Australian's aren't buying Penfolds as there is a lot better wine around now for a lot cheaper!

Can you named a few wine which are a lot cheaper and better please?

Any of the Cornwell vinegar range except the 202o balsamic as the grape was effected by the floods that year

Thanks for your opinion and you can keep it to yourself.

      • If I were to recommend anything I would say Shaw + Smith at Adelaide hills

        https://www.shawandsmith.com/product/2021-Balhannah-Vineyard…

I would give the 2021 Shiraz but also their Pinot noir is really good.. silky smooth texture like grange for 1/10th price .. honestly grange is over priced but really good ..

      • If you want Barossa Shiraz, any of the Standish wines are about $125 and better than Grange, otherwise Sami-Odi, John Duval and Eisenstone are making great wines as well at the moment all at a fraction of the price of Grange.

  • I have heard about Penfold Grange but never could pull the trigger on a $800 bottle of wine. Maximum I have spent on a bottle of wine is about $150. Always wondered if they tasted any different or do they just make expensive gifts? Does anyone know? Here is your chance to flex.

    • I pour a bottle of Grange over my Rice Bubbles every morning. It does taste better than Jacobs Creek but my preference is Hill of Grace and with Cocoa Pops.

        Perfect for cooking spag bog

        • depends what blend of meat you use in the spag bog, the grange will over power some of the meat if you use pork or veal as part of the meat blend, i find Barolo better, not as fruit driven and better tannin for spag bog.

      • Nice. A whole bottle? That's quite a substantial breakfast! Haven't heard of Hill of Grace. Something new to aspire to. Thanks.

      • Surely you would use Annie's Lane or Windy Peak on the Cocoa Pops. And I don't mind a bit of Hill of Grace

It's definitely above the regular standard of what "good" is, but I think you need a fairly developed palate (I do not have one) to get the most out of really premium wines like this. Given the context in which it's marketed - CNY - I daresay this is intended for people who want to flex instead of proper wine (profanity).

    • have had grace and 389 on same day, the 389 comes up well at 1/10th price, 389 is often at the $80 mark but also depends on vintage ….stocked up on 2018 and 2021 389.

but with China removing the Wine tariff the prices have gone drastically up.

So Penfold AU pricing to pegged to its RRP in China, good to know.

    • +1

Whatever the market will bear pricing for a product that probably costs $50 to make, tops.

      • COGS on Grange is around $20

  • 110+ Points - Sam Kim? Huon Hooke only 97 points. Colin Hay was great in Men At Work, not sure I value his wine appreciation marks.
2019 was the Year of the Pig. Any sentiment attached there OP?
There are 9 unnecessary sentences in the spiel, although I guess not everyone is familiar with the reputation, heritage (+- hype). Sadly Alan Tudge (I know) forgot to include it in his updated citizenship test.

Good wine. Worth $700+? Nimb but ymmv
