[Poll] Please Help Me Choose a 4k Gaming Monitor: LG 32GR93U-B Vs Dell G3223Q Vs Samsung Neo G7

Running 7800X3D and RX7900XTX, just need an upgrade from my 27-inch TN panel monitor for 4k gaming.

Not interested in OLED. Already set on using a 32-inch monitor.

I've set this up as a poll and would appreciate if you explain the rationale of choosing the monitor you vote for.

Thanks!

    Have the Dell. Love it.

May I ask why did you pick the Dell G3223Q?

      • +2

Two main reasons for me. One is the price for performance. You can get these for 550 on sale. I work from home and game and the monitor switches between the two nicely. I needed a monitor with an aux out as well. Also I wanted a dell to match my other 32 inch dell. I have a dual 32 inch set up.

I also agree that OLED is great, but I'll switch to OLED once the price comes down and I can afford a dual OLED monitor purchase. For 550 you'll be really happy with the Dell. It's crisp, clear, bright, hardly any back bleed or light bleeding. Great port selection. And great menus.

I also recently received mine (G3223Q). It is absolutely awesome, scrolling a page never looked so good. Contrast is suppose to be a weak point, but compared to the 2 VA monitors I have atm, which both have 3000:1 contrast ratio, the colours are more vivid on the Dell.

Have a look at this site, they compare with similar monitors (32 inch 4k +144hz) which are more expensive, and it does very well.

        • Thank you, really useful!

I got to see Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 earlier and thought that the 1000R curve was too aggressive and the VA panel had poorer viewing angle relative to IPS, so leaning heavily towards Dell G3223Q now. Just gotta wait for the special to return…

          • @TukangPijat: If you can access a student account you can get it for $612.01 right now. Price atm is $669 - student discount 7% - $10 (sign up bonus).

I was going to wait for the discount as well but prefer to have it now. Also, while I'm not relying on it, they will refund you the difference if the price drops within 30 days. This is all when purchasing from Dell.

            • @Notatightass: Unfortunately, I don't have access to a student discount and I am going away for holiday at the end of the month, so I prefer to do my shopping once I return in mid May. Admittedly I could really use a new monitor now, just not ideal logistically, as I won't be able to fully test it and organise return if there are problems.

              • @TukangPijat: Sure, I was giving a suggestion. Just a heads up, I've noticed it looks quite bad in the dark. It's a non-issue for me because my desk is always well lit, but if you like working in a dark environment, then it won't be the best option.

    why not interested in OLED?

Want to wait until the tech matures and pricing drops further.

        I'm running a 7900XTX as well.

My OLED LG 42" C2 was such an impactful purchase, everything looks amazing. I managed to get it for close to $1k

I think the tech doesn't need to mature but acknowledge the premium, I definitely think it's justified though.

You use a 42" screen as your monitor? Isn't it like a TV?

        • +1

I did notice some consumers choosing a 42" C2 monitor over a gaming monitor. Unfortunately, a 32" monitor is perhaps the largest I can fit into my available space.

    • More than double the price of this. If I can get a 32" OLED sub $700 I'm in.

Will be interesting to see the results, I'm hoping to upgrade later in the year. They all seem pretty similar but I noticed the dell has hdr600 vs hdr400 on the others

Only thing I could add is to try out a curved monitor first if you can (If you are interested in the Samsung). I have a curved one now and it was a weird adjustment going from flat screens. It's cool for gaming but for productivity tasks or anything else it's a bit weird to be honest, it depends on your desk setup a bit (how close you are to the screen etc). I'm used to it now, but took some adjustment.

    • Indeed. I did get to see the Samsung Neo G7 in person and the 1000R curve felt too aggressive.

  • I voted for the LG but I bought the Dell G3223Q because it was $520 on special vs the LG which is still $849 (lowest is usually $700)

The Dell needs the Dell Display Manager and Driver installed.
When I first tested HDR it lagged and made my RTX4070TI work overtime.
Games were choppy and I freaked out thinking I had faulty panel.
As soon as I installed Driver and DDM everything was fine until the colours were terrible when I enabled Smart HDR then disabled HDR but left HDR colour mode selected which made colours look terrible. Fixed by disabling Color HDR Mode when HDR was off.
The FPS was really good with DLSS Frame Generation, Ray Tracking Off and High Settings. Hits 110FPS easy on Hitman 3
The contrast ratio and blacks are pretty bad but just switch to DCI-P3 when watching a movie and you should be fine.
Games look average in Standard and Creator Mode but Game 1-3 looks pretty good. If your dark scenes are too dark there are three layers of black
Reflections of light behind the monitor are pretty bad and makes blacks look grey, kinda annoying in well lit rooms
I turned brightness down to 15% cause this thing is super bright.

Overall for $520 I can't expect too much more from this monitor.
I didn't want to pay $950 for a 60Hz Ultrasharp and it's nice to know if I want to game on this monitor I can (even though I use my monitor for 90% productivity)
