Why would anyone buy these with such a low spec at this price except for the (duh) it's Apple?
I know, I don't understand the quality.
Low spec? They sound fantastic (regular stereo is great, Atmos is amazing, spatial stereo is nice too), their noise cancellation is great, and how they bounce effortlessly between iPhone/iPad/Mac/Watch/TV is second to none.
Yeah, you need to use Apple stuff to get the most out of them. If you don't use Apple stuff, get something else.

Because some people value the brand (and whatever that means for them) more than the specs. It makes no sense to me whatsoever, but I cannot deny the perceived value that various consumers see in something like this.
I listed some stuff (sound fantastic, noise cancellation is great, seamlessly switch between devices) 14 minutes before your comment, but yeah… you got me, I’m lying! None of those things are true, and we’re all really just suckered in by the Apple logo! It’s purely that cute little nibbled fruit that’s led to their success! 😂

What are the alternatives other than Sony XM5?
I've got Sony XM5 and fwiw, they are are a vice around my head. Great quality, noise cancelling and all that but in no way comfortable. I always the airpods for long listening sessions.
Hit up the Bose. Try them on first for comfort
For wireless, the Sony and Bose are pretty good
For wired, beyerdynamic is in its own league
Apple Max is in the "no proprietary, unserviceable headphones worth this much" bin

I own 2k$ iem but I would still bring my app2 on the go without a second thought

@Mike Nolan: 1 - MagSafe charging for the phone isn’t necessarily a cable - battery packs exist
2 - You could also use the same MagSafe charger cable for the phone, watch and regular/Pro AirPods
3 - AirPods Max have 20 hours battery life, so it’s unlikely you’ll need to charge them each day anyway

Picked up these a few years back (cheaper than this), they are OK, but I would take Maxwell any day. They weren't released when I got my Max. The only reason to go for the Max is if you have lots of Apple gear and want them to automatically pair.
