What's the percentage of real chicken in these?

Edit - Not sure why I'm getting negged for asking a question. I like nugs too.

God I am fangin for Maccas nuggets drenched in sweet and sour sauce now…large chips, large vanilla shake ohhhhh

If you don't count the tempura coating or brine infused into the chicken breast, then 100% https://mcdonalds.com.au/menu/chicken-mcnuggets®

      • 3 nuggets for $5.30

That's what I thought too. With their price, they have no need for a cut.

    • +3

Enough to call it chicken, I'm assuming.

Doesn't really answer your question, but maybe the percentage of chicken could be determined from the nutritional breakdown, particularly the protein element which is given at 12.4%.

The protein content of most meat (including poultry meat) ranges between 15 and 35%, depending on the water and fat content of the product.

Feet and beak is real chicken.

      • +4

        Is that your fetish

      • Pretty sure feet and beak is not 100% chicken breast..
Maybe that's what they were back in your day.

    • +1

Its not vegan if thats what your asking.

    • Not negged, nugged.

  • No discount in Perth:(

    • +2

Maccas encouraging you to move to the good side of the country

      • +5

Nah they have mining money so no need for a discount.

        • Mining still around in WA??!!

    • It's showing in my app, but in the 'my deal' section, not menu price. They took away the 24 nugs in my menu

And it says single use but so does the frozen drinks one so I guess it's one a day.

    • +1

Why do all the trees in Australia lean West? Because Perth sucks.

  • +14

This deal x 4 and use 20% off deal = 96 nuggs for $32. Dinner for one, sorted.
    Bosh!

    • +6

You didn't add dessert. What a monster.

      • +1

Drench the last box in chocolate sauce…

    • I don't think you can stack 2 deals. Any hack I'm missing?

      • Can usually stack app rewards deals with generic Maccas discounts/ meal deals. For instance the other day I was able to apply 20% off for over $40 order on limited time deal of 2 McMuffins and 2 hash browns and coffee for $12.95c (x3) and one hamburger for $2 to make it $40.85c then the discount applied so total cost was $32.68c.
Can’t however use app rewards deals with other app rewards deals so I couldn’t use that and stack with like 40x $1 frozen drinks which is always an app offer too. Although I’d love to see their reaction to ordering 40 slushies.

      • I don't think you need a code or anything for the nuggets, it's just the price, so there's no second deal, just the 20% one.

        • Looks like they also bring it back on the menu then yes if order through the menu. Would be very nice if my 20% off $10 spend hasn't expired.

    • -1

Looks like it's a single use deal

      • -1

Ah my bad, that sucks though. Should be the standard price tbh

      • +3

Add the 24 nuggets from the regular menu (same price as the single use deal) and it will work with any quantity, with the 20% off deal.

        • Cheers, I didn't see it there before. Already got 24 today anyways

    • Put them all together and it's almost a full chicken.

  • Poll : which nuggets do you like best? McD, Hungry Jacks, KFC? Red Rooster? or.. any others? Frozen Ingham ?ALDI one?

    • +3

      Love Ingham nuggets.

    • +1

My personal rankings from best to worst:

      KFC
      Red Rooster
      Hungry Jack's
      McDonald's

I haven't had frozen ones from the supermarket for maybe 15 years, so got no idea about Aldi, Ingham etc.

      • +23

no way; kfc ive always found to be soggy

personally swapping kfc and maccas on thst list

        • agree

        • +1

kfc nuggets fresh out of the fryer, are good but not as good as maccas nuggets.

        • +4

          This ^^^^
My stomach churns whenever I think about KFC nuggets. Always soggy and soft.

        • +8

KFC nuggets are soggy but the batter is more flavourful and you can eat them on their own. Macca's nuggets are crispy but they're hard to eat without sauce.

I like having KFC nuggets to mix it up.

      • +4

HJ nuggets are atrocious, every time I have them (from my local) they seem flavourless and don't seem to have a crunch to them

    • McD's > Grill'd > Carls Jr > KFC > Red Rooster > HJ's

Best frozen are Tegel Gluten Free

      • Huh? Grill'd don't have nuggets, they have "bites" which are different.

    • I had one bite of an Aldi nugget and threw the pack away. was basically hot slime

      • The Aldi tempura nuggets, or the more traditional crumbed ones?

The Aldi tempura ones are good.

        • I think most of Aldi's house-brand foods are as good or better than name brands, but I can't eat any of their nuggets. Both in taste and texture. Gross.

    • Maccas' are too crispy but that is counteracted by using a sauce as lubrication, then they're the best.

KFC's are too soggy but coating actually tastes like something, and can be eaten just fine with or without sauce.

The other fast food nuggets aren't worth thinking about, let alone eating.

    • Those OG HJs Nugs were the best

  • +3

Stopped eating Maccas. Can't believe I used to crave this junk.

That being said, my mate mentioned the nuggets haven gotten better :/

Please someone tell me this isn't true.

    • +3

This isn't true. Maybe he's just getting fresher ones. Straight out of the deep fry they are good.

      • +1

Thanks mate. Temptation has been shut down.

    • +2

Yeah it depends. Like I see some Maccas and they pull out of the freezer dozens of pallets of burger buns at once, so by the time the last pallet is used the buns are stale. But on paper if everything is done right then Maccas is okay. Maybe one day Maccas will develop an AI that watches all the cameras and says "uh, guys, you won't need that many buns for the next few hours, put some of them back in the freezer".

    • Haven't had nuggets in quite a while and succumbed today- I think mine were fresh so really nice and crispy, just like how I remember them so quality has been maintained 👍

  • -7

They put children in their food, avoid!

  • right as i go on holiday…

unpopular opinion, Maccas nuggets are the worst out of everyone's

  • +1

Love maccas nuggets but even I have even ten of them it just starts to get too salty and fatty.

  • +2

Anyone still getting the $8 18x nuggets + 2 large fries deals in the app anymore or has it been completely removed (along with the $8 2x small big mac/qtr pounder meals that are now $13.99) after all the price rises and updates?

    • i got a $14.99 for 2x small quarter pounder meals, havent seen the $8 or $9 for 2x small meals in ages

    • All of those stopped a long time ago now (think it was around Nov '22 after the Nov deals month), as well as other good deals like $1 large fries, $3 quarter pounder/big mac (or 2 for $6) etc.

      • Even maccas gotta keep up with the inflation lol. Do they still have the $1 large fries or cheeseburger offers for new account sign ups though?

        • Yeah but they jacked that up too, $1.50 now.

  • is it still cheaper to get nuggets from supermarket and airfry your own?

    • +1

      Of course.

    • Apples and Oranges

      • Chicken breasts and chicken meats.

    • Sure but they'll taste like arse.

  • Employee 50% discount would go crazy.

    • +1

Can't stack with these deals, but managers get free food and employees get five-finger free food if they're friends with the manager

  • -1

Aldi Platinum dishwashing tablets are still cheaper and I find these ones leave my dishes greasy 🤷🏼‍♂️ Plus I find they recharge slowly in anything but the McEneloop charger.

    • +3

Cool but what's that got to do with nuggets?

  • +1

Just fyi for anyone that’s read the comments this far, Maccas have changed their rewards points amounts for the long running hack of getting large McCafe drink. Sadly now 2500 points only gets you small or medium, and a whopping 5000 points gets you a large. Stingy buggers. If you get a cold drink it’s like 90% ice anyway, which leads me to my pro-tip, order with no ice and get a separate cup of ice for free; more bang for your reward buck.

    • +2

Yeah I figured that out during my last visit - no more large size for the 2500 pts. Still ok with the medium size for me. But how do you ask for a separate cup of ice? Do I need to ask them as I don't see anywhere to leave a note or something?

      • Yeah true, the medium is still quite decent size. Nah can’t ask for it via the order have to just request from the checkout. I usually get a cup of water with ice cause it’s less suspicious and also free water, then throw the ice in the cold drink. My app wasn’t letting me customise the ice amount the other day, so wondered if they perhaps got rid of it there as to again save money on milk. But I did find success via in-store self order screens or just using app to order and quickly telling them no ice please. It seems stingy but honestly a medium iced coffee with no ice is enough for my wife and I to share and get a decent swig from each, but I got one the other day and forgot to say no ice, and without a word of a lie, it was 3 sips and gone. Probably 80ml of milk in the whole cup. Vs maybe 500ml without the ice, so worth the effort imo.

        • +1

I always ask for having little ice and little sugar when I get a drink at a milk tea store. As you said 3 sips are nothing especially when I'm thirty. Good to know that I can do the same here. Macca seems to upgrade their app with an option to customise the coffee drink, quite bits to change and confusing.

        • The three Macca's stores I frequent all have the espresso machine/barista easily visible at the drive through pickup window. All three stores only fill any given size up with 1/3 ice even though the ice fill guide on the cup is marked at half way. Plenty of actual milk goes in, and my medium iced latte lasts ALOT longer than 3 sips. Your store must be taking people for a ride.

That also being said, regardless of the milk ratio, I'm not ordering an iced latte without ice, ever. Considering the hot espresso is already lowering the temperature of the milk, which often just sits out on the counter or on a cart as they use it before it has a chance to go bad, so it's not really 'cold' cold to begin with, that's just asking for a disappointment drink.

          • @BradH13: Fair enough, you do you, and glad to hear your Maccas are decent, but the four that I regularly go to nearby to my place are stingy af and load up the ice. Get what you mean about the coffee shot, but tbh I usually get chai or chocolate and head home with it anyway, so sometimes dont even ask for extra ice just say no ice and bring it home to spilt in our own glasses, add ice, and top up with extra milk. If I was getting one on the go I know what you mean though, gotta do the ice.

    • +1

I was away overseas for 6 weeks Feb-March and realised the change when I got back- bastards!

The hack was a big drawcard for me so I think I'll be frequenting less now.

  • Usually I start regretting the temptation to buy these nuggets after eating 3-4 of the rubbery things and I remember why I never order them lol.

The KFC ones are kinda ok atleast they seem to have a more realistic texture.

  • Poll : which nuggets do you think the HEALTHIEST ?
McD, Hungry Jacks, KFC? Red Rooster? or.. any others? Frozen Ingham ?ALDI one?

    ===
Changed one word from @langitbiru's comment

    • You're just trying to be delusional if you consider fast food healthy. Treat yourself once in a while if you wish, but suggest you prep meals at home if you're after something healthy 😉

      • Even if you prep meal at home and cook the same thing (chicken nugget), it'll be just as (un)healthy as the fast food chain or frozen products. It may be healthier just in terms of less additives and (maybe) better oil.

      • -1

Healthiest is 'best ingredients' in which the 'damage' of fast food would vary significantly.

    • Definitely kfc, thinner coating less carbs + the chicking inside is like actual chicken on the inside unlike every other nugget out there.

  • +1

in the maccas app, it says the deal expires on the 28th of may
