Tasmania's own ink maker is having a special across their range for purchases of multiple bottles. This is a great opportunity to stock up on some colours of quality inks.

Note that any purchase of 10 bottles or more automatically qualifies for a free bottle of the April Ink of the Month, and this stacks on top of the discounts. Further, Van Dieman's recently dropped the price of their Fusion Ink Mixing Kits by $30, so if you've ever wanted to get some inky fingers and starting creating your own colours this is a great way of starting.

5 15% INKY15
10 20% INKY20
15 25% INKY25
20 30% INKY30

I often get asked what their ink is like. My quick thoughts:

  • Generally well-behaved in pens, smooth flowing, doesn't suffer nib creep too much.
  • Medium dry time, lefties may want to be careful to avoid smearing.
  • Soaks in well on fountain pen friendly papers.
  • Doesn't feather on most papers.
  • Minimal bleed-through, but some thin papers may show shading with darker colours.|

  • Fascinating…I'm geniunely curious who still uses a fountain pen to write in the day and age of ballpoint pen? Is there any actual advantage to this?

The colours are REAL nice, I have a bunch of cheap AliExpress clear fountain pens on my work desk that I use to sign receipts for accounts, using a different colour every time is fun and who else has a pen with a nice thick orange line? Or a pen with a nice deep blue with a hint of green?
Apart from that, I write down my work and workout log in a diary and I use a different colour for each 2 page spread so that it looks nice, it's just a fun hobby

      • Thanks, I hadn't thought of it that way before!

I do. I find a fountain pen forces me to slow down and concentrate, thus my already-scratchy handwriting improves a bit. I will admit they are rubbish if you have multipart forms to fill in, where a ballpoint or rollerball is far superior. That's why I keep a couple of those handy at all times.

Apart from that, it's just personal choice. I like my collection of fountain pens, then all have their own character in the way they look and write, and the inks are all so pretty!
