Ozito 100A Gasless MIG Welder Kit $148 (Normally $199) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-Store/ OnePass) @ Bunnings

160

Saw it at Bunnings with a date 07/04/24 on its tag I think it is likely when its promotion ends.

Yard Force 100A Mig Welder from Mitre 10 is also discounted to $149 from $199. However the Ozito one comes with more accessories.

I was initially thinking about buying a $104 Ozito arc welder as my first welder, but with this discount a MIG welder seems to be a better one to begin with.

    Yuck. Gasless.

Throw it in the bin. Made the mistake already.

What's the issue? For a beginner/hobbyist, saves having to buy the gas bottles, no?

I've been told a few times that new welders are better off, long term, learning on an arc welder and then moving to a MIG. I'm not sure why this is the case, but it might be worth looking into it.

I've been told a few times

      By whom ?

I did do some research before buying and what you said is likely the case: one can easily manoeuvre MIG with the skill from arc welding. But some also said there could be a lot of frustration learning with arc welding. Plus my household welding are mostly on the thinner sides therefore MIG could be a more suitable choice.

They are all arc welding. I think you mean manual/stick welding

I feel like gasless Metal Inert Gas welder needs a different name.

Here’s the thing about gasless MIG welders – they are not technically gasless. They just use a self-shielding, flux core wire that produces vapors (aka, gas) that protect the weld pool from contamination. The vapors also create slag that provides additional protection from contamination, though it does need to be cleaned after welding.

      • isnt that just like a stick welder then? But on a wire?

What the difference between the one on this post and this Ozito 120A Inverter Arc Welder Kit IAW-120?

    • The 120A is a stick welder which is ideal for welding thicker material, however stick welding has a steeper learning curve.
