From my limited research, it will cost me about $1300 one way for all 4 of us which I think is pretty good considering how far away the destination is and the fact we are 4 people.
That's a Scoot flight from Sydney to Singapore - approx $630 total, and then using AirAsia for a quick hop to KL and onto Seoul for another $650ish
anyone suggest otherwise?

Cebu pacific is another budget airline that could take you to singspore to korea (via manila).
Be warned though its a very basic airline, but it might interest you
With two kids in tow and low cost airlines I would really try to do this in as few hops as possible even if it costs a little extra.
The 4 of you to KL on 5th March would be 982.00 then 662.00 to Seoul with airasia. Its an extra $300 but one less flight / airport / customs / immigration at a low cost terminal.
Adioso came up with $1260 via scoot and airasia. Book the cheap flights to Singapore on scoot ATM for $149 then book the nxt special from airasia or jetstar etc when on special
