    Only 4k 30hz if that's a big deal.

Nah I'm good, I'll use the VGA!

Beats me why there's no spare C slot… You plug in power and you're left with only 3x A

Do people really still use VGA?

    • This was the only way to plug your laptop into your projector circa 2001

More than 20 years ago. So the question still stands. Do people really still use VGA?

        • +5

At public schools they do 😅.

        • People don’t but organisation do. They think vga is fail proof

          • @CandyMan: Nah, companies replace laptops every 3-4 years usually. You haven't been able to buy one with a VGA port in over 10 years.

            • @Nukkels: for what it's worth i left my last company a touch over a year ago and had a VGA port on my laptop that was at the time about 3 years old. The reason was that the building they where in at the time the laptops got rolled out had VGA cables in all of the rooms run in the floor to run the meeting room screens. I think some peoples second screen may have also been wired in via VGA. This is a large listed national company.

            • @Nukkels: VGA adaptor fixes it. You would be surprised how common vga is. I started buying my own equipment.

    • Nope, but I'm sure it comes in handy when you need an adapter.

    • The answer is no, and has been for 5-10 years now. I don't trust anything that still includes a VGA port as it's clearly cobbled together from ancient parts.

    • When your HDMI screen goes off the monitor, yet your VGA screen fits perfectly. Yup.

I still have three HP, one Dell, and one Samsung 4x3 monitors. Two of those only have VGA. the otherrs have VGA and DVI. Pretty sure they are so old HDMI didn't even exist yet. All of them are 1280x1024. All of them work as well as they did Day one, when dinosaurs roamed the earth. For "another monitor" they are in use every day. I also use them specifically for GOG titles that are older than dirt. Just … feels more authentic that way. I would not swap them for new ones. I will not remove them from use.

TLDR. Yes. People do still use VGA. Me people. There is likely dozens of us. DOZENS.

  • So this isn't the dock for multiple screen displays?

Thank you, good sir… I've had a few usb-C to display port +hdmi multi-adapters in the cart, watching price changes, but didn't have that one. The "paid" price was a nice low $45 after the auto 20% discount at checkout and 33% discount checkbox/coupon. Almost needs a deal on its own.

        • That looks like a good deal. Tried to post it, but "Posting deals from Magic Digital-AU has been banned on OzBargain. Reason: Sockpuppeting."

        • This is a very good deal

      • Got the wavelink one, thanks!

Well it has 1 HDMI port. So if your laptop has one as well then you can run 2 displays.

      • As long as it's capable of it.

Many cheaper laptops are intentionally gimped to restrict the resolution to about FHD, and none of the Apple silicon Macs (except the crazy $4k+ ones) can do dual external screens.

  • Hey bargainers, I have a laptop that has a USB C/Thunderbolt port with DP Alt support.

So far I've been able to either charge my laptop with a USB C PD charger through the port, OR use the same port to connect a monitor to my laptop.

Does anyone know if this USB dock will let me do all three of these things at once off of the one USB C connected to that Thunderbolt port on my laptop:
    a) Charge laptop with PD 100w
    b) Display pass through to my monitor
    c) Act as the dock for the USB and LAN cables plugged in to it

Does anyone have any other recommendations if this dock won't do all that? It's a bit hard to understand if all three functions are supported at once from the one port.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can shed some light!!

This is meant to do that, yes. The description says "Compatible devices include the Dell XPS 13/15/17, HP Spectre x2/HP Spectre x360, Lenovo Yoga 720/910/920/930, Surface Pro 7/X/Go/Laptop 3, MacBook Pro Air 2020-2018 and more", but the word "more" is doing a lot of legwork in that sentence.

      • Thanks mate, I'm going to give it a shot. Given it's Amazon, worst case I can just return it if it doesn't live up to that expectation anyway!

  • Bought this and was delivered today. Tried it on my Dell Latitude 9520 laptop and the laptop says it's charging slowly when using the hub with the Dell supplied charger. Also tried the UGreen 100W Gan Charger and got the same result.

Thinking of returning.. unless somebody can point out what could be wrong?

The dock itself uses 6-11 watts, which might be enough for the laptop software to complain about getting less than the expected amount of juice. If it is falling back to the minimum PD charging spec, on the other hand, then I guess it's just not working for you and it ought to be returned.

The manual does talk about changing the order you plug things in (PD into dock first, or dock into laptop first) to try and get the PD to negotiate a faster charge. If that doesn't help then return imo
