Uniden 72XLT VHF/UHF Scanner $20 from DSE Pickup Only

180

I noticed this the other night on the DSE site under the clearance section for $50 then just now i noticed it has been further reduced to $20,seems like a good price if you're into that sought of thing.

In case some people don't know a scanner is a piece of equipment used to listen in on emergency services radio broadcasts, air traffic, marine etc.

MOD EDIT - Appears to be only left in WA stores and SA as per members posts below

Looks like out of stock around Melbourne. =/

    • +3

Yes i bought two via click & collect,i did say pickup only in the title. They were available for click & collect at two stores in my general area about an hour ago but yes i should have checked availability in other states before posting sorry.

There are a few stores in WA as of now that show 'low stock please call'

  • +6

Yes, i can see some at perth stores…is that why you negged the deal chadparis? So regardless of whether it is a good deal or not if it's not available close to you then it's a bad deal?… lol
Wait til I see another damn Aldi deal….no Aldi in Perth :P

    • where in perth? i am looking, but cant see any…

      • Last night when posted, I saw low stock in Innaloo, both Morley stores, and one other I couldn't remember.
edit: Galleria still shows as low stock

        • thanks ajw, i'll give it a go :)

        • +1

Picked one last demo unit from Morley Galleria. It has few scratches on the unit with accessories/box unused. Anyways thanks for pointing out.
Guys at the store said they received like 30 calls this morning already :)

Well I am glad you were able to purchase T_Double_U just not available for us eastern states. And NO AJW I do not think it is the responsibility of the OP to check availability Australia wide.

    • chadparis, I didn't ask you if you thought it was the responsibility of OP to check availability. I asked if you negged the bargain because it was not available near you (regardless of whether it was a bargain or not) :-)

  • -6

Yes I think its hard to check all and maybe you should say you did purchase as so many times I have logged so many hours trying to get a deal someone posted from some site but as the OP never bought its not available..

    • +2

but as the OP never bought its not available..

It IS available (nowhere close to me though) - the fact that it's not available in your local vicinity isn't a good enough reason to neg.

      • Ok people lets not have a, he said, we said.

        1. It would be nice if the OP had stated they had bought.
        2. Again also nice if said where they bought. With all clearance items they are going to be in most cases limited
        3. A little checking on the OP's profile says they are in WA, that should be a clue.
        4. A REPORT to the mods, so we can EDIT the would probably be better for the community than a negative vote. Negative votes are designed to be a community editing function, like hiding spam, so when mods aren't here they are effectively taken down quickly.

        Enjoy

crap!, always wanted one of these.

Thanks for the post, collecting mine from Modbury TTP in SA, seems like they have ample stock.

    • Thanks for posting. Have added this to the text of the post.

BTW why not give the original post a positive vote, it raises its profile so others will see the deal, and also thanks the poster as well.

    • None left at TTP.

    • +1

There's none of these anywhere near where I live (Sydney). If someone's lucky enough to get their hands on some, I'm prepared to pay $40 each plus postage for up to five of these. They'd be perfect to help turn some of my nieces and nephews into geeks… :-) My email is geoff at breach dot com dot au

I recommend these if you cannot hook onto this bargain… it costs a little more ($50) but has a heap more functions & features, great battery life, stronger reception and far better buiild quality.
It also transmits on uhf & amateur band but ** do not transmit on the amateur band unless you have a licence**.

      +1 I second that.

Some of the China handie-talkies that I have owned (Puxing, Wouxon, TYT, BaoFeng to name a couple, and I've had a few!) have surprised me with their both their audio quality and signal reception, performing well above expectations.

There has been various Amateur and CB repeaters around the place which I've been able to key up and converse with using a tiny little Wouxun dual bander, while the two Motorola commercial portables have struggled.

The only downside of the extremely sensitive receivers in China radios is they are more susceptible to intermod if you're in the CBD or other well built up areas. Intermod interference is what sounds like another radio channel "bleeding" onto your own, with voice or annoying pager data noises. This can be eliminated by programming a CTCSS/DCS code specific to the group you are on. If you're only using it to listen to the emergency services, then putting their CTCSS code with the receive channel will make life a little less fuzzy for you (Google is your friend).

TL;DR? China radios are alright for a UHF cheapie. But kids, please make sure you don't program any TRANSMIT channel outside of the CB band.

Otherwise, the ACMA party van is going to rock up at your door and have a few words about transmitting unlicenced and interfering with licenced users — http://www.uhfcb.com.au/80-Channel-UHF-Information.php

      My two boring cents.

  • Nil stocks in ACT guys, great buy though, if you can source one. Thanks op

  • had a click and collect at Glenelg SA, and someone got there before me and bought both… I got OzBargained…..

  • I had a click and collect at Marion SA - the store just called and apparently the stock level on the web site is wrong and they don't actually have any…

    • What time did you order/click ?

I placed a click and collect at 7:40am and just picked mine up from Marion about 30 mins ago. It is missing some packaging so most likely a demo/floor stock. I also tried St marys and they had one but someone was already coming in to get it

      • Hi Squeezy - about 7:50am. The store rang me to say the only one they had was one in their repair bin - sounds like the one you got!

        • It looks new and it works.. shame most of the interesting feeds have moved to Encrypted Digital broadcast. Listening to Courier services and other fluff isn't overly exciting. Had a boat that had broken down at sea and being towed is the highlight of the afternoon..lol

      • That was me :)

I had a click and collect for Tea Tree Plaza and they did the same to me. Click and Collect is useless I have never got a product yet with that process.

    • was told Marion had 12, and someone got 6 first thing… who was it?

      • Probably a staff member.

  • Hi,
Can someone explain me the difference between this scanner and a walkie talkie?

    • +2

      Two main differences:
      - a scanner cannot transmit, it is for listening only
      - a walkie-talkie can (usually) only listen to the radio channel it is set to. A scanner will "scan" all of the channels (or a programmable sub-set of the channels), listening for a signal, and will stop scanning when it "hears" a signal. So you can monitor an entire frequency band for transmissions.

      • Grabbed the last ex display 73xlt at dse innaloo. Got it for $20. Was given 2aa batts as well. Have i read your above comment, i would not have bought it. The salesguy was kind enough to look for stock, look for the box and made sure its complete.

Eavesdropping only. Anyway, i told the wife it will come in handy in a doomsday scenario to look for signs of life, which according to the mayans is less than 2 months away

Ozbargain: where you somtimes buy things you really dont need :)

        • +1

If you are worried about the Mayan predictions, I hope you didn't buy extended warranty!

        • +2

I hear you. Well at least its a cheap toy. I couldnt explain to my wife either why we need it, but dooms day scenario sounds plausible. I'll steal this line if you dont mind. :)
My one was ex-demo, so came with a few scratches, but hey if dooms day ever comes I'll say to my wife "Look honey I was right to buy it".

  • I got one today just noticed its a 73xlt anyone no the difference

    • Where did you get yours ?

And the million dollar question - Are there more?

      • I got it from elizabeth s.a they claimed there system said they had three but they could only find one

  • Oh I have that too I hadn't noticed. Its the revised model. I don't think its much different

Got mine in St Marys South Australia today about lunch time was last one.

  • Fairfield NSW had one left yesterday, I got there at 5.31pm and the store was closed. The useless piece of crap counting the register couldnt even be bothered talking at a reasonable level so I could hear him properly.
I asked if I came back in the morning could I pick up the scanner and he says yes. I drove all the way back this morning and he hides in the backroom. Sends out his 12 year old employee who tell me they sold it yesterday.

    You suck Dick Smith Fairfield.

    • I saw the "low stock" there yesterday too. I called and they let the phone ring so i didn't bother. Lucky for me. God knows i don't need this thing but for 20 bucks…..

  • Just got the display model from colonnades SA
    For $19 ( staff discount)
