Shopping for a drive as a gift for a friend, I was surprised to see that the 2TB version of this drive is listed for the same price as the 1TB. I don't think it's been this cheap before. I paid for it without an issue, but will be collecting it tomorrow due to the holiday. Not marked as a special or a time limited deal.

85 at Amazon for partner model
Toshiba Canvio Partner 2TB USB-C Portable External Hard Drive, Black https://amzn.asia/d/0bSTxN4Whoever gave this a neg isn't very helpful.
Why is the USB-C version at $7 more a bad deal?Isn't it a completely different drive? The post is for the 7200rpm and this one is 5400rpm, also USB 3.2 vs USB 3.0.
Maybe- but couldn't the negger (who looks to have also negged me for asking!) have said that instead of just doshing out a 'neg?
Not everyone is an expert in everything. A little explanation would have helped everyone.
Thanks for your explanation, btw.
It's a trap. It's a micro-b plug, So the supplied cable is usb-c and they called it a usbc drive
USB 3.2 Gen 1 cable (Type-C to Micro-B)
$122 now
Agree $122
Can this be shucked?
According to this reddit post, no
Only seagate ones can be, apparently.
Surely this is fine for a fire stick media drive yeah?
Should be
"Unavailable online" - I guess this is it. Must have realized they have messed up with the price.
No that's just it's sold out online.
Still available to order online for Victorian stores on Sat 30/3

You guys reckon HDD last better than SSD for the long run?
Google search
“The lifespan of an SSD is significantly longer than that of an HDD. While HDDs tend to last around 3-5 years, SSDs can last up to 10 years or more. This is because SSDs have no moving parts, whereas HDDs have spinning disks that can wear down over time.”If the cost is nearly the same I'd go SSD basically every time since an SSD can be literally thrown around and it will be fine but if the HDD is knocked slightly too hard or falls over at the wrong time it can totally destroy all the data on it.
Plus you get the added advantages that SSD has which is lighter weight, less power required and most importantly, faster. I believe a HDD can last longer than an SSD if both are put in the same dry area and not used at all except for the first write due to the data being magnetically stored meanwhile I believe SSD/Flash/Nand memory may need to be plugged in every few years to juice it up or something.
I could be totally wrong about SSD storage life but the tech is still much newer than HDD tech so its difficult to be able to say "yes that data will still be available in 20 years" for a SSD/Nvme than you can say for a HDD.Regardless though if the data is important you should have it backed up at least 3 times anyway
Use HDD for archival storage. SSD tends to forget stuff when the nand cells lose charge. However based on my own test, I have USB 2.0 drives last used 15 years ago still read out fine. Either the ECC is doing its job well or it has better Nand chips. Please be aware not all nand chips have same performance.
I have this one at home.
I bought it 2 years ago from officeworks for 67 delivered.damn it just bought 2 thought it was ssd,
Now that would have a price error of it was.
It's a HDD, I've seen cheaper
Yeah I really don’t get why this has so many upvotes.
I've seen cheaper too, but if you want a reputable brand new portable HDD now then this is a good deal.

You can’t use a HDD, let alone an external HDD.
Instructions unclear. My 5.25" floppy drive didn't work either.

Bought 5tb portable Toshiba for $50 two years ago from OW, it was the last one on clearance.
Sorry a bit of a noob with these. Do they work with Mac with a usb converter? In specification it only shows windows.
Yes. Once you reformat it.
Not a deal, this is a standard price. Also makes very little sense when you can get 4tb portable HDDs for 120ish.
Where can you get a 4TB portable HDD for $120? Please post it as a deal.
Definitely from OW you pay $120 plus an additional $48 but if you ignore the $48 then it's $120 in your mind.

Thanks, now I'm looking out for a good deal on time machines, so I can go back to 2023.
Probable pricing error: Personally not going to roll the dice, but great find!
