How Do I Find Good Deals on Cases of Beer?

The search function on Dan's (and every other liquor store afaik) website is just atrocious if you want to find cheap cases of beer. You can't filter by pack size, so sorting by price just gives you results for the singles price, not case price. Useless.

I've taken a look for sites or apps that can help, but they all suck. Some might be useful if you've already decided what beer you want and just want to see where to buy it, but I like loads of different beers, and I'm happy to try new beers if the price is right.

So if anyone has any tips, please share them!

Edit: Thanks all for posting discounts and such, but I'm more looking for a method to find the best value cases. A X% cashback is good, but getting a cashback on the best value case available is even better.

When I lived in Aus, I would just swing by Woolies when the specials changed and see what BWS had. I knew one of the managers who would also give me the staff price.

If you like independent brands I would go straight to the source. Brewers are getting seriously shafted and the margins aren’t there for BWS and Dans.

There was no woolies staff price, staff would just get a 5% discount.

Liquorland still allow you to set the case size and to list lowest to highest.
But DM’s and BWS are beyond shit with it I’ll agree.

The pricing though of beer is now ridiculous though basically anywhere apart from the Aldi beers.

    • Cheers for the LL advice. Still hoping there's a workaround for Dan's.

ALDI beers are 'cheap' for a reason man. They're all made in Vietnam or other very low cost countries. You can get that kind of stuff at Dan's too - Tun for example. You can definitely taste it.

I'd do a price comparison, but ALDI intentionally don't list their prices anywhere. Because regional pricing, plus not actually being as much cheaper as the reputation suggests.

Didn’t realise New Zealand was a low cost country considering that’s where the Storm and Fraser Briggs is brewed.

Rivet is made in Vietnam, but it’s also $34 for a 4.6% beer. Storm and Fraser Briggs are $40 a carton - their prices are listed right on the Aldi website so no idea why you think they’re hiding them? If you’re referring to the few other beers that they do sell that the others do, then yeah they can be hard to find at times and also usually come in half carton sizes. But if it’s actually a decent deal more than likely they’ll advertise it as a special buy and list the price.

Hmm. I was told before that only the Fraser Briggs was from NZ - And from my tasting experience it's a poor knockoff of Boags. Maybe drinkable ice cold if you smash it down, but for the most part it's worth spending an extra $6 for a case of something much nicer, like this Peroni red from italy: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_569365/peroni-red-l… … I guess I'll give a six pack of the Storm a go, though.

And yes - it's annoying that some of their products are listed in the section you've screenshotted, sometimes they're in the catalogue, and some products aren't listed at all. Every other supermarket lets you hit the website and simply slap a search into the home page.

          • @Grazz989: People still pay good money for a carton of Emu Export.. to me the Storm and Fraser Briggs are many times better than that and cheaper.

So basically…different strokes for different folks. For me, if I’m drinking beer socially I’m at a pub (spending a lot more overall than I ever would for a carton of beer).

If I’m drinking beer at home, I’m more than happy with the Storm/Fraser Briggs for the cost savings. Was different when a decent carton was under $50, nowadays (profanity) spending $60-$70.

            • @Nousernamehere: You still can get a decent case for less than $50. Dan's member prices, there's always at least one drinkable beer under $50. They're just a pain to find!

              • @Grazz989: Dan’s member prices are nowhere near as good as they use to be when it first launched. They legit had good deals available, now it just feels like it’s paid lip service to calling it a deal.

As I said, different strokes for different folks. I prefer to not waste time going through either DM’s or BWS’s website and prefer knowing what beer I can get and for what price.

Even better as it shows on the CC that I just shopped at Aldi not at bottle shop 😂

                • @Nousernamehere: Doesn't really matter how good or bad the members prices were in the past, they're alright now. Like I said, a few dollars extra gets you, for example - a nice fully imported Italian beer. Next month it might be korean beer. Who knows the month after that. Variety is the spice of life!

Why would you be worried that your CC shows you buying grog? Who on earth would both have access to your CC statements, judge that poorly, and yet not actually see the case of beer for themselves?

This isn't just Aldi beers, Coronas have been coming out of China for ages (yes, I mean the beers).

        • LOL

I've been telling people about Corona production having moved to China, but never even thought to exploit that coincidence. Cheers ;)

Saint Etitienne was great when it was $32.99 and made by Fosters, then the contract switched to a South Australian Brewery, and the price went up to $38.99 a case.
Aldi stopped making it due to the complaints about price rise/different flavour

  • I generally wait for cashback or high flybuys points vs spend. BWS was doing 16% yesterday for example. I’ve seen 10x or 20x flybuys too every now & then.

    • Right, but that applies across the board. I'm trying to find good prices on decent beer in the first place, so that when a cashback opportunity arises, I can still maximise value. Y'know what I mean?

If you're in SA, auctions. At the rooms this morning, another restaurant closure, another 2 aisles of cheap booze.
Just dont get carried away bidding. Some people just cant set limits 🤷
