Hi all, hope you're all having a great week so far! Seeking some ideas or guidance.
I have recently (10 days ago) moved to Victoria from Sydney (NSW). Currently, my NSW registration expired last night, and when I reached out to VicRoads, the earliest appointment available is next month, the 18th (already booked).
Which option is better, more viable, and time-saving?
Option 1: Is it better to get registered first in NSW and then transfer to Vic when I attend on the 18th?
Option 2: Is it better to take a UVP (unregistered vehicle permit) so I can buy time until the 18th and avoid renewing the NSW registration and do two things at one go transfer vehicle to Vic & registration?
Also please advise is it mandatory to do roadworthiness before transferring interstate or registering an unregistere vehicle.
Thanks in advance
Cheers
How old is the car? Does it require a pink slip in NSW for rego? If it’s under 5 years and doesn’t need a pink slip, just pay the rego and cancel it later… but you are going to be up for a cancellation fee which may not make it worth it for 18 days…
Option 2 isn’t what you think it is. You can’t just get a UVP and drive around normally, going shopping or going to work, that kind of thing. There are a pretty strict set of rules to getting a UVP and how and when you can use it. It is not a replacement for registering your vehicle.
Also, yes, it is mandatory to do a RWC when transferring registration from NSW to Vic. The up side is that you will not have to pay stamp duty, as you already have paid this when you registered the car in NSW. They can’t slug you with stamp duty for a car you already own.
