Broken Mobile Phone, Help Please

My friend dropped her Samsung Note10 mobile phone and broke the screen.

The phone turns on, the screen goes red, then black, and that's it. It stops on, but she needs to see the apps to download the photos that she has taken. Is there any way for her get her photos back and transferred to her new phone, other than replacing the screen?

Thank you

Plug the phone into a computer and it will act as a USB drive. You can then access the photos.¹

¹ It may be more difficult than this, but that would be my first step.

Sometimes you have to choose "file transfer". The phone will automatically think it's just charging.

Op can try if they can back up using smart switch, but not sure if you still need to do anything on the phone

They might have to use images online to gauge approximately where to click to allow the transfer ²

² Assuming the screen is still responsive

If you can unlock it, Samsumg Dex maybe?

I've had success with scrcpy and a PC.

After turning the phone on just keep tapping the screen in random places. Depending on what apps are installed she will either get the photos back, make an awkward Ebay purchase or have a new tinder date.

Aren't they backed up automatically on google? Isn't the whole phone automatically backed up to a google account?

That was my question. Surely they're on google photos.

I've got photos on there from 2013 and changed phones about 4 times since then.

Unfortunately not if you don't install the app, and it's not on there by default

Is this a Samsung thing? I actively avoid Samsung but every android i've owned in the last 8 years it's been a defaut app with syncing turned on automatically.

        • Been a while since I set up but, Iirc, I've had to install Google photos.

By default, you're prompted to sync to one drive.

@Jake D: Yeah, Samsung OOTB experience is pretty nasty, IMO.

    • I've had to stop auto upload because Samsung does this dumbass thing where it groups every photo together. Even if I choose specific folders in Google Photos to upload, it uploads everything. Had to manually delete thousands of random photos and screenshots.

  • Any chance the contents of the app has automatically been backed up to the cloud?

Nah, Samsung don't like Google, so don't have any google stuff installed by default :/

It would have if it was a Pixel or most other Android …

      • Google messages is there, chrome, actual google app, play store, youtube.

The google backup is inbuilt and on first operating the phone, it asks you to turn on back up.

  • check photos.google.com and see whether the pictures are in the cloud.

  • plug a USB-c hub into the port

then connect HDMI and a USB mouse. you can unlock the phone using the mouse and then transfer the files after that

    • Thankyou

    • That works?

      • I haven't tried it yet. I'll get back to you, probably next weekend, as I don't see her very often.
