As an ex foxtel now user, I can confirm I did not get this email.

"Free" is about what this is worth. It's a horribly undercooked device that I could only recommend to someone who wants to run Binge/Kayo with an EPG. There is a Whirlpool thread covering all the cons (and few pros) with this device.

I wouldn't pay for the Hubbl but, for free, with the $10 basic Binge pack (35 Foxtel channels), it's almost palatable.

    • +8

But but but two mediocre, vanilla comedians said we should buy it!!!

      • +7

Oh man I can't stand Hamish and Andy. They weren't funny in the 2000s, how do they keep getting gigs all these years later?

    • +1

      I can't see a $10 binge pack with 35 free Foxtel channels

  • +2

Genuine question - why would anyone buy a Hubbl? Is it just a digital set top box similar to a Google TV or Apple TV but probably not as good?

    • +1

I'm guessing target market is people who love the Foxtel ecosystem and aren't tech savvy enough to know what a Firestick or a google Chromecast is

      • +8

There are people who love the Foxtel ecosystem?

        • +12

There are people who think Harvey Norman is the only place to buy a fridge or outdoor furniture…

          • +1

@The Judge: The same people put the Fridge outside and can't quite get the outdoor furniture to look right in the Lounge Room…

          • +7

            @The Judge:

There are people who think Harvey Norman is the only place to buy a fridge or outdoor furniture…

ThE SaLeSPeRSOn AlWAYS GiVES mE A GoOd DEAL!!!!

            • @PainToad: It's big in regional areas, where people are more likely to have a relationship with either the salesperson or the franchisee & there's usually no competition!

    • +3

Google TV & Apple TV & Fire TV are better for app streaming.

The Hubbl is good if you want to run Binge/Kayo/aerial and have an EPG. In essence IPTV Foxtel.

      • +4

That's what I'm thinking. I have Binge(free 6 months) and Kayo (discounted qantas) and our google tv app for Binge is very buggy. Hoping its better on this otherwise I've blown a whole - oh no, $0.

        • +2

Make sure your Binge and Kayo accounts are on the same Hubbl account, or they won't work. Unlike all other streaming devices, you cannot log into the Kayo/Binge apps individually. Needs to be done thru Hubbl so both accounts must be under the one login/username/email.

          At $0 it's priced about right ;)

        • +3

Excuse me sir. May I ask what discounted kayo (qantas) is?

          • -2

@maruko: Discounted Kayo via QANTAS Rewards. Not too difficult to understand…

            • +1

@bargain ben: If it’s not difficult to understand could you explain please? I don't see any discounted kayo in my qantas rewards…

      • Yep got it - even so though, I've got Binge and Kayo on my Google TV. So the only value I'd get from Hubbl is being able to watch FTA TV on it too? Which I can also do on Google or Apple TV using the 7, 9 or 10 apps?

I don't get it. Foxtel needs to focus on making their products better. Kayo and Binge both have horrible interfaces and you pay what you do for Netflix/Stan but they charge you that plus give you ads. Not good enough

        • +2

So the only value I'd get from Hubbl is being able to watch FTA TV on it too

The average Foxtel customer is probably someone 50+ aka the only people who still watch FTA TV.

          • +1

@PainToad: LOL true. Heading away to see the in laws in a few days and they are your classic people who get Foxtel premium package but basically only watch FTA TV on the set top box.

          • @PainToad: Think all of my work homes that have fox are 60+

        • +1

It's not aimed at you or me.
It the oldies they are targeting.

    • My parents have a use case where they no longer have an aerial but like to watch 9 News and 7sport.
Having an EPG that can use the streaming apps for free to air channels will work perfectly for their needs + their Netflix subscription.

      • Except there is no dedicated EPG button on the remote control and having to navigate from the Home page through the array of menus to "TV Guide" and then having to select the "Local Channel" filter before it disappears just to get to the actual EPG channel list every single time is not exactly user-friendly.

  • Got the email yesterday. Ordered and got the confirmation email. Have many other streaming devices, so this is for curiosity sake and it's free

  • Could you provide any actual information on how to obtain the deal? The OP just sends me to the hubbl homepage.

    • +1

It's Targeted. If you didn't get the email, this link here won't work.

      • -1

Yeah, I just can't comprehend how the browser has any idea if I got the email or not.

    • I'm guessing…

Receive email, click link, complete form, submit form, receive product.

If you haven't received an email, no deal for you.

  • Got the link through my email, don't know what I'll use it for as own a smart TV that does the same thing

  • It's quite a clunky device for 2024. The review are not great on Youtube.

  • Awful company to deal with, Binge promo does not work they can F.O.

  • +1

As a former Foxtel user, they can stick their hubbl up their doubbl bubbl

  • Worked for only 1 out of my 3 previous Foxtel accounts

  • They've released a couple of TVs as well.

  • +1

Be aware that you might have to return it if you delete your Hubbl account:

Had a read of the terms and conditions. Not exactly free as if you delete Hubbl account you need to return the device. Still better than paying $99.

I could be wrong…but the hubbl box has a tv guide? where as the fire stick/googleTV does not?

so it functions like kayo where you need to tap on the channel to see what's on? that's a massive difference..

    • With the Kayo channels in the guide, it doesn't show any info about what teams are playing or where they are playing etc, so it's not much use.

      • That's right… They have a hell of a lot of improvements to make. Somehow it feels rushed even though its sister offerings in the UK/US have been out for years.

Got this email today from foxtel now

    Nope, didn't get it.

  • I got it about 3hrs ago, but the link goes to a Hubbl page that is mostly blank and forever loading.

  • Got my free one yesterday in the mail, I find it absolutely ridiculous that "Foxtel now" isn't supported on hubbl.

  • +1

Who would buy this rubbish? Another fail from Foxtel. Google tv is light years ahead

    • Buy it? Not me but I do have a new tcl google tv and the binge app is buggy and annoying so if it works better through this then it’s a win. If not it’ll be going to eBay.

      • Just be mindful of their T&Cs for the free Hubbl. It would appear if you delete your Hubbl account off it, they expect it returned.

  • +2

I only signed up to a trial in January and I still got it.

I used to have an account but I think they deleted all the unused once a awhile back.

  • Doesn't matter which team you are on, you will always be better off with Google TV, Apple TV or one of Amazons Fire devices. You can tell just by the marketing campaign this device is landfill, similar to the later iterations of IQ boxes…

  • Got the email, but they need your credit card details to complete the order. So don't feel it's free .
