  • When hooked up with the latest Homebase, it gains the AI capabilities (determining what is an unknown human, known human, pet, vehicle, package, or other) and stores footage on the Homebase (which can have up to 16TB of storage depending on what HDD you put in it). As mentioned by OP, the Homebase can also act as a chime.

Yeah the AI detected my housemate as unknown pet 😂

  • Does anyone know whether Google assistant integration is available with this doorbell and Homebase 3? I want a small display of who's at the door when someone rings the doorbell.

  • what are people's thoughts on eufy vs ring?

    • +4

Ring has limited functionality without a subscription. Cloud storage, person and package recognition are all behind a subscription paywall at $50 annually. Without a subscription, you can only view real-time video and answer doorbell notifications as they occur

Eufy has higher upfront cost but no subscriptions so you only pay once. Local storage is built in, with extra storage vai SD card or add on Homebase for more storage and extra features. Also, the extra down-facing camera for packages is clever if that feature is of interest.

I hate the idea of subscriptions for smart home hardware, so I'd choose Eufy over Ring. However, I would recommend a Reolink video doorbell over both of these, if you have doorbell wiring - it comes with a chime, it has built in person detection, it supports SD cards and various non-proprietary options for local storage, and it's half the price of this one.

      • thanks for the summary

Eufy bell ring doesnt not automatically trigger anything on Google Assistant. It is annoying AF.
My mate's Alexa is able to.

    • +1

I got out of the Ring and Arlo ecosystems entirely in favour of Eufy. The no subscription model, intelligent notifications and expandable local storage is neat.

  • So where does the bell ring? On the phone only? I don't see a physical bell unit for indoor placement.

    • With the basic package, the only notification will be on your phone. You can buy an indoor chime separately.

      • Hmm. Tried searching but haven't found the chime itself. A little help please?

        • This is the one I was referring to, but I should point out that I have no idea whether it's compatible with this particular product.

          • @klaw81: Hmm looks good thanks
Only works with the home base, which I don't have either. Turning out to be an expensive exercise.
Thinking of keeping it simple and back to basics now

@dealmaker: Eufy is pretty good at making sure you stay inside their ecosystem - and IMO their products are only worth buying if they're VERY cheap. Otherwise, you are locked into more expensive devices at every turn.

If you want to get the absolute basics, the Gen 2 Ring Doorbell + Chime package is super easy and very cheap at $135 total, but you get ZERO recording capability unless you pay a monthly or annual subscription. https://ring.com/au/en/products/video-doorbell-with-chime-ge…

If you have (or can install) basic 12v wiring and your house allows it, the best value game in town is the Reolink WiFi doorbell….but if you need to pay somebody to install wiring, it's not a great deal anymore.

              • @klaw81: Awesome thanks for sharing
Reolink WiFi doorbell could just be the solution I'm looking for. With the wiring, I already have the standard 220v wall wiring in place, so would it connect direct to that?

    • HB3 acts as a ringer. Its loud enough. Also - it has ability to wire your existing bell (AC/DC 24v ?)

      • Don't have home base
        No existing bell

    • The Eufy chime is pretty dear - about $90 I think. I bought a Echo Dot 5 (for $49) as an external chime because I have a large house. It works perfectly with the Dot %.

I also have it ring on my Base Station 3 and my phone.

If you use RETURN20 code - then you get 20% off. I got my purchase down to $251.97

    • Great find, thank you I’ve updated the post.

      • no probs!

Go Reolink for a fraction of the price.

    • There are no battery-powered Reolink doorbells, are there? Honest question.

      • +2

        No - not yet.

A battery powered version of the current Reolink doorbell was shown off at CES, and rumours say it will be launched by the end of May.

  • I was going to go with this as I already have their cameras but went with the Aqara G4 as I have the A100 door handle and it’s outstanding. The software with Eufy can be very hit and miss with the cameras. Hopefully I made the right choice, great price OP Id have grabbed this if the G4 wasn’t on its way

  • Exactly what I needed, thanks!

  • Nice find! The video smart lock is also on sale! $479.96 after discount and coupons!

  • Is this just an add on? Or standalone with home chime as well?

    • It can stand alone as a doorbell camera, assuming you're okay with not having a dedicated chime. Photos/videos would be stored on an internal SD card (not included) and the only notification would be via connected phones.

If you wanted an indoor chime, the Eufy Homebase (which also functions as an NVR to store footage captured by the camera) can also act as a chime.

Or you can buy a chime separately that (I think, please check) are compatible with this device.
