I've purchased this game so many time now, I just dont want to hand over any more money for the physical version on PS5. It's a good deal for those who havent already bought or played GTA V. I'm also disappointed that the trilogy is based on the mobile port and and one of the buggiest releases, not keen on picking up for this reason, unless a lot has changed since release?

  • Might be handy to buy it digitally since there's about 100gb of patches since the disc released.

    • Even the PS5 version? I'd have assumed almost all the stuff would be on that disc by now. Only had 3 or 4 updates to the series x version and I've been installed since day one

      • You make a bold assumption that any data is actually on the discs these days.

Sure, my 360 version of GTA V from over a decade ago would work offline, but Rockstar likely isn't going to bother putting a gold disc through QA when 99% of people will download the latest update as soon as the disc enters the drive.

        • Been all digital since a few months before current gen started, and before that still majority digital for a good while. Only discs I've used this gen are a couple of PS5 games (Ratchet, Spider-Man, another one or two) because we play so little on the PS5 it made sense to just buy it cheaper retail, we're all Xbox, have several of them in the house and digital (re: Eneba) just makes sense to have all our games everywhere.

Anyway moral of the story is I picked up Elden Ring the other day for a friend to play when they're over, and the whole thing installed off disc. Had an update but the game could be played off disc. There's still plenty of games like that, but then there's shit like Jedi Survivor that I day one'd (and returned a couple days later after beating) and it had the first level on disc and nothing else, (profanity) ridiculous. Given GTA is a 10+ year old game I'd have figured it'd be the easiest thing ever to have on the actual disc, bar any additional updates. I was gonna say Rockstar have been pretty good with this in the past but then I remembered they've released one game in the last decade so, eh.

tl;dr some games still have the full thing on disc, I'd have figured a decade old rerelease would be one of them

      • All the online stuff adds up. And from memory you can't not install the online game updates even if you only play single player.

  • Is the trilogy still a mess?

For under 8 bucks each, they're all still fantastic games. The sookage was blown well out of proportion. They should be held accountable, absolutely, and they're still far from perfect. But for 8 bucks a pop, there's no actually bad way to play these classics. I've played them on iPod touches, phones with and without controllers, Wii U, PS Vita, pretty well everything there is, even bought an R36S this morning to have another place to play Vice City, I've never had anything less than a good time with these games.

Again, they should be held accountable for being greedy lazy (profanity), but at $24 it's not even a question.

  • Is this a similar experience (in a modern setting) to Red Dead Redemption 2?
