price aside, is this game worth playing?

    • +9

There's no set answer to "is X game worth it". There's always going to be people that say yes, some that say no and some undecided and/or jumping on circlejerk bandwagons. None of them may align to your personal preferences.

Read reviews and watch gameplay videos to form an opinion on whether the game may be suited for you personally.

For a tenner, most games are worth a punt. For Forspaken, traversal and combat are decent but the story is poor and world is a bit uninteresting. Fine for a playthrough for something different.

      • +12

Ok so if I rephrase this as “is this worth my time”, it’s probably a no. I dunno an about you guys but as I’ve gotten older the price of games are less of a factor and more so if the game is even worth my time.

        • +3

It might be a yes though. Your tastes and enjoyment might differ from the general hivemind.

So many people hated on Gotham Knights to the point of a meme. It dropped to $10 here and I got a good 50 hours of fun out of it including the Platinum trophy. I'm not even big on superheros. It won't win any awards, certainly doesn't deserve to, but it was still enjoyable.

Lots of people enjoyed Forspoken. Mediocre games can still be worthwhile.

        • One of the nice things about hype.

After the first few weeks if a game is still full in the Zeitgeist it's probably pretty decent.

Excluding some multiplayer games that just survive despite being trash (battlefield, cod etc)

      • Did someone say circlejerk?

    • +4

Each to their own but for me no. I bought it a couple weeks ago when it was cheap at JB expecting it to be pretty mediocre. First hours genuinely surprised me and parkour mechanics, fighting and exploring all felt really good. After a few hours the world feels very dead and bland and story is poor with not a single likeable character. By the end of it I felt like it was a chore just to finish.

In summary, cheap is good but is your time worth more than sub-par entertainment? For me I wish I did other things with my time.

    • +4

Might be worth trying but the main character is a horrible character and the game ends very aruptly as well as if it was unfinished.

    • +5

      Not in my opinion.

Poor gameplay, terrible story, completely unlikeable characters, the game world itself is completely dead & the game was clearly released about 1-2 years before being ready.

You'll only need an hour with the game before realising that the company who released it more than likely paid for an incomplete game from a third party, then horrifically botched finishing off the development of it & wedged in some of the worst amateur-hour story writing you'll ever see. It's so bad they likely contract for Disney or Netflix.

  • +1

what a crap grame. Thanks for saving me 10 bucks

  • -2

Thanks but no thanks - $10 too expensive.

    • +2

      Set up a crowd-fund. I'll chip in $1

  • +6

Apparently the game was so bad it bankrupt the devs

    • The devs are owned by Square Enix, how can they be bankrupt.

      • +10

that whole division was shortly liquidated after that game launched

      • +4

Luminous Productions a subsidiary of Square developed the game. After Forspoken flopped, the studio was re-organised and merged into Square Enix.
One could infer that the poor performance of the game killed the studio

      • +7

They dissolved the studio after this dropped to thunderous laughter.

  • +2

    can we trade at EB?

EDIT: lol Amazon just matched EB Pre-owned haha

    • Does that mean it's worthless to trade in?

      • +3

Yesterday i checked, 3$ for forspoken at ebtrade in

        • Ah fair enough, just a few weeks ago Forspoken was on the list of eligible games for the trade in 2 games deals but I guess not anymore.

          • @xers: I've wondered about this…..is there a "list" generally available?

            • @paulsmithy: it may be back into the list once their Pre-own sale ends.

            • +1

@paulsmithy: There's a list but it changes all the time and not available to the public. Someone posted this in January and Forspoken was on it.

    • I think they matched Gamesmen.

How bad is this game? Easy Allies (my go to reviewer) gave it an 8/10… But 6s seems more popular among other reviewers.

      • -1

Honestly if someone you trust rates it, give it a go. Especially for $10. I feel like a lot of games just become popular to hate on.

      • It has a Metacritic average user/player score of 3/10……….. AFTER the score was brigaded upward from it's initial 1.7/10 from 1000+ player reviews !

It was pretty much in everyone's list for worst 3 games of 2023.

        • +1

User score isn't always the best metric. If a hyped game ends up being a 7/10 they will flood the rating with 1s just because it didn't live to their expectations.

  • this suppose to be free

    • +2

      Or pay us to play

      • +2

Was just about to say this. For such bad quality, I'd expect to be reimbursed for spending my free time on this game.

  • +1

    GOTY

    Yawn

  • +3

Should be on PS Plus soon I reckon

    • god i hope not

  • -1

never heard of this game till now but it looks good.

    • +1

It’s actually lots of fun. One of the best magic combat systems I’ve played.

  • +4

The gameplay isn't that bad, looks like people here haven't played it. The main character leaves something to be desired though

    • +5

That's the thing.. the gameplay isn't bad but the character is such tiktok "I'm the main character bad arse with attitude" bs, you just can't relate to her and after a while, you lose interest in her progressions..

Once you don't give a shit what happen to the MC, it's basically game over for a game.

      • -5

She’s an orphan kid that gets bullied and beaten by thugs in her neighbourhood, her only friend is her cat. She then tries to kill her self. She’s probably going to have a bit of an attitude. That’s the problem with monoculture, anything unique is too alien and strange. That is why we get mediocre hollywood movies, they want to make movies that “relate” to the widest ordinance so we just get fed the same blandness again and again. And when people try to do something different? Nooo! We actually want bland food!

        • +4

No one is hating on this for being unique - they're hating on it simply because the writing is terrible

        • Thanks for letting us know you never played the game.

Her character is a repeat criminal offender who starts the game in court for a hearing regarding a third time felony charge for the same crime, that she openly admits to committing. She's an unrepentant criminal pile of excrement & it's displayed in a cinematic video you can't skip.

An activist judge then allows her to use a diversity card to get a reduced 120-day good behaviour slap on the wrist instead of what should have been a mandatory prison sentence and then the main character promptly walks out the court room, openly laughing about what she did, without any remorse what so ever. Not even a shred of regret for what she did to her latest victim.

You then literally start the game from the steps of that courthouse and within a few minutes of janky 15fps gameplay get sucked into a warp hole and into the magical dimension that the rest of the game then takes place in.

  • you can price match it at jb hifi.

  • +3

The dialogue of the main character is potato

  • Jesus this is cheap

  • Guys this or the hobbit game?

    • No…The day before

    • -1

Easily this, the gameplay is pretty fun, worth $10 if the dialogue doesn't grate on you too much

  • Price matched JB, generated a new JB Perks code and got the game for free.

  • +1

ok..Why is this game so bad?

    • it didn't forspoke enough (99% of the general gamer population)

    • As per above comments:

Poor gameplay, terrible story, completely unlikeable characters, the game world itself is completely dead & the game was clearly released about 1-2 years before being ready. You'll only need an hour with the game before realising that the company who released it more than likely paid for an incomplete game from a third party, then horrifically botched finishing off the development of it & wedged in some of the worst amateur-hour story writing you'll ever see.

It ended up with a MetaCritic rating of just 1.7 out of 10 and games companies can literally use their advertising budgets to buy perfect scores to jack up their overall ratings for sites like that.

The game bombed so hard, Sony demanded their money back from the developer (LPUS) after paying for the title as a platform exclusive, then the game studio was forced out of business after an audit by it's parent company (Square Enix Japan) revealed losses of over $80 million. Steam and Sony both forced the developers to offer full refunds on the game for PC and Playstation gamers, no questions asked. Then to rub salt in the wounds, their parent company terminated the contracts of every developer involved with the game, even those who had moved on to other projects under different Square Enix Japan studios.

      • What do developers do in that situation? Do they still put on their CV that they worked on a 1/10 game?

        • -2

The terminated developers went and joined a company called "Sweet Baby Inc".

It has not worked out well for any of them.

  • +2

Even JB selling this for $20, but on the PS Store, still $115…

    • +8

      All hail the digital future!

  • +1

The game is not too bad once once you're halfway into it. It's like they developed a really fun game, then stripped all the fun back and locked it behind a progression system / skill tree that take way too long to unlock. Once you're fully powered after 10 hours, the traversal, combat ang gameplay loop is actually fun. Also, the dialogue /writing is awful, but that doesn't bother me too much — I've played games with worse/cringier writing…

    • What about the DLC, is it worth it.

      • -1

        no

      • +2

Sweet baby Jesus, I didn't know they did a DLC on this .. game.

What was it called - "The apology."?

        • +1

          More like DLC: Forf**ksake

  • -1

    Sweet Baby…

    • Oh, you've seen a better deal on this?

  • $0 if you watch it on YouTube

  • I had such hopes for this when Project Athia was previewed with the soon to be released Ps5…

  • this or honey soy chips?

    • Smokey cajun pringles.

  • Ive held off but finally bought it

  • +1

bought! surely can't be wrong with only $10

  • +1

They would have to pay me to play that shit.

  • +4

Sweet baby Inc was involved with this game, not surprised ppl are saying the story is bad and character unrelatable. Massive backlash atm with this consulting company FYI.

  • The demo killed all the hype I had for this game.
It’s like from hero to zero boner moment.

  • +2

Not worth the plastic cover it's held in.

  • game is crap but $10 is about right. saying that i won't play

  • Can't go wrong for a tenna

  • Game was ruined by DEI consultants

    • -3

Someone downvoted you, but that's literally what happened.

A game dev and his team pitched this to Square Enix Japan. They green-lit the game and outsourced it to a studio they set up in America called "Luminous Productions", in the hope it would result in a game developed for a global audience instead of just Japan. They unfortunately unwittingly hired an executive to oversee the game who promptly turned the company woke and used DEI hiring practices to replace the lead dev and his entire team with an all-female diversity-hire team instead. The new DEI hires then re-named the game and inserted an entirely different main character and game story, deciding it had to be about an "oppressed" young black woman from the hood, who gets sucked into a Skyrim type dimension and becomes the most diverse young empowered magic-using woman of colour in this new realm.

They then cooked the books & blew out the budget of the game to over $100 million, had to release it as a broken pile of garbage and all got terminated after Square Enix had to end the business. The diversity hires that wrecked the game and imploded the entire game studio then went and joined a company called "Sweet baby Inc" as literal DEI consultants, to destroy other games and game studios in the exact same way.

  • +2

This was a TERRIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT…. can't believe I preordered. Suppose that's my mistake, but its a terrible game even at this pricepoint IMHO.
Boring gameplay, average story, I could go on.
Wait till it's free on PSN or gamepass.

  • +2

    ESG corruption

  • i guess all the Stock is Gone …

  • +1

This game is actually pretty good. This was a bargain.
