Lead Located in Stanley Quencher Cups

I see these cups often on the daily train commute to/from work and was curious how much these cups cost. However I came across this recent article.

What do you think? Is this old news? Does this sound like a rival company's marketing campaign to get more market share?

For those who own the cup, it's at the least worth a check inside your cups to ensure the vacuum seal is not compromised.

I think you should be ok, providing you don’t eat the cup, or grind it, or sand it, or heat it to melting point, or pick the lead out and inject it, or burn it and inhale the fumes…

      inhale

      That makes scents. Cheers

Sydney came to a standstill over a handful of asbestos fragments in the garden mulch, so I can’t see it likely people will be sensible about this.

    • Gee pal, you're no fun.

      Uh ohhhhhh

  • Didn't people pay a small fortune for these cups?

You probably get more lead poisoning living near airports as the government did not want to ban leaded petrol for light planes.

It's just typical media sensationalism. Don't break your cup and lick it and you'll be fine.

This is stupid, there is no health risk from this at all.

Its how they are made, yes old news and storm in a tea cup, and yes most likely a rival trying to pickup market share.

One would think if the vacuum seal is compromised would you notice half your drink stuck in the vacuumed area.

    Fear mongering at its finest.

Just wait till the OP realises that most major brands have the same setup (including YETI), it's how they make their aluminimum cups weigh more and give it a more premium feel.

Note* the lead is not in contact with your hands or the liquid in any way shape or form, it's within the vacuum sealed section. This is nothing more than fearmongering snsationalistic shrill and the OP has eaten it up hook line and sinker.

OP you might want to do some research prior to getting outraged next time ;)

If the vacuum seal is compromised you would've had to damage the cup in a significant way (like throw it at a wall multiple times, run it over with a tank or hammer a nail through it).

    • Yeah you're right. This is a post of someone who is "outraged" and not of someone who was just curious how much these cups cost and came across that article while doing some "research" online :)

  • I have located lead in fuel used by piston aircraft.

  • More concerned about drinking from a cup thats not clear. What crawled, flew into my cup?
    Give me glass any day.
