  • Really not much to choose from unless you like almost black /port coloured lipsticks.

  • Bought the hand cream for $29

  • How do these hand creams compare to other brands? Is there a particular reason why this brand is so expensive?

Having used l'Occitane since 2005, I can share that having personally used for many years since very young pretty much almost all French pharmaceutical brands of creams of all sorts due to skin problems (ie. La Roche Posay, Avene, Uriage, A Derma, Yves Rocher etc… and many more), the effectiveness of l'Occitane products is unmatched compared to all other brands for moisturising your skin, especially the Shea Butter range.

      • Have you tried any non French brands?

        • +1

Except The Body Shop, and other mainstream brands like Neutrogena or Nivea not really. I have been using Ethique for the past few years, it is effective, but the texture is not as nice, and as much as it moisturises well (it sorts of creates a moisture/greasy barrier on your skin) it is only temporary. My experience with Ethique is that it doesn't improve your skin as much over the long term unlike L'Occitane products, although not all l'Occitane products are effective for me (I have tried almost every range of their products, some no longer exist though).

@Optimus Subprime: I can use cheap brands and find that they're fine for me. I have a friend who has dry hands from washing them in hot water. She says she uses a corticosteroid cream, but here hands are still dry. Not sure if she uses it regularly or not. She has also used aesop, which I find ok, but expensive.

Her issue is she says the hand creams she uses are often typically greasy and when she uses the laptop, the hand cream residue will stick to the screen when she closes it. I've given her some hand creams to try but not sure if they're too greasy for her.

Sounds like it's time for l'occitane. I think I have a sample I got on the plane which I might give for her to try and see it it agrees with her. If you said its the most effective at moisturising then definitely worth a try.

            Thanks for the info.
