I've purchased instore from Moi Moi, was a pleasant experience. One thing to note is that their website has a list of all the stones with size, cut, grade and pricing which you can choose from which is larger than their selection instore. They will happily get it made with the stone you want or put you on a wait list if the exact one you want isn't available.

    • +1 for Moi Moi, purchased over email from interstate (then paid over the phone and posted). Went through a complete design process with them including choosing the specific stones and the desired look. Staff were great at all times and the finished product was exactly what I had in mind. Very happy overall.

Be careful not to make it too good - https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2024/02/lab-gā€¦

One key thing mentioned there, wholesale prices are falling a lot quicker than retail prices. So it might be worth trying to find the stone seperate to the necklace you want (but I know nothing about diamonds, so I could be completely wrong on this being possible).

    • A jeweller will charge you a pretty penny to install a stone

I like Secrets, I bought a set as I was travelling to Europe/Africa and didn't want to wear the real one. It looks real and is really sparkly after a clean. Get more compliments with that one than my real one šŸ˜‚

    • i actually unironically do rate the Secrets brand too - (assuming you can get it at a decent price)

If you're after the perfect diamond, isn't quality out of the equation because you're looking for the best of each of the 4 C's ?

Yeah a perfect 1ct lab diamond won't be cheap. If you go slightly smaller it'll be cheaper, and you won't even notice the size difference.

Be informed that there is no real value in diamonds, even lab grown diamonds beyond what you put on them. You can't resell them for anywhere near your purchase price, they are NEVER an investment and the eyeball difference between different grades is mostly only seen with a loupe or under magnification, and certainly not at a metres distance.

Don't get caught up in the con of clarity/colour etc. A jeweller will gladly put two diamonds of clarity D vs K infront of you and say "see how yellow the K is" but if you were just shown the K diamond, you wouldn't really be able to tell - but your wallet will.

They are pretty to look at, sure, but so are moissanite etc.

Having said that, I got my partners lab grown diamond engagement ring from a reputable and unique seller, Silly Shiny Diamonds. Can't recommend her enough.

So where can we find cheap secondhand lab diamonds? Is there an open market somewhere? Ebay? Fb marketplace?

      • Facebook marketplace is full of rings from people who called off engagements and the prices are insanely cheap compared to retail, they depreciate more than wrist watches.

You'd want to get it verified at a jeweller though, regardless of what paperwork they have with it.

I guess people don't want someone else's ring because of superstition and personal choices, but you can also re-seat a diamond.

  • Waiting, waiting.

  • I bought an engagement ring from GS diamonds online, a massive selection and their diamonds weren't as expensive as some other retailers and they are very helpful in store (Sydney) as well. The whole process was great, and if I was going to purchase another diamond I would do it through them.

I will say that if it is going to be fitted on a silver chain then to stay above a F/G colour or so, but if its on a gold chain you don't really want one too bright as it looks unnatural imo, I went with a J on a gold band and it is still every bit as bright, you might only notice it on white gold or next to a very bright diamond.

I strongly recommend GS diamonds to anyone interested. But also to look into other stone alternatives if you're not 100% tied to a diamond.

  • Call Bob Sacramento

  • I've purchased before from https://www.whiteflash.com/ back in 2008 and they are still around.

  • If you are open to overseas vendor, check reddit for some recommendations.

    • just be aware of shipping insurance, shipping, tax, gst, etc on importing. never skip on insurance with someone worth thousands of dollars either.
