Thanks for the info. I've been umming and ahhing beyween these and the HD600 for ages so I think I will hold out for a good price on them. The Hi-Fi show sounds like a great idea as well. Here's the ticketing page for anyone interested.

Have you thought about the 560s? I would have preferred them over the 599, but they were much more expensive when I needed a new pair.
Yes have seen others report on prev deals here (and elsewhere) that the while the 599 are more 'fun' sounding, 560s are more detailed (but more fatiguing) with less bass.
@gazer: They've fixed most of the treble issues, but they were never fatiguing, just neutral. 599 is warm and a little muddy, especially without a decent amp.
@gazer: ahh i dont know which one to buy 599 or 560s. i only listen to rnb and trance music, i watch youtube and videos, spotify music and podcasts a lot and i play a few games?
I can confirm, they do provide a longer cable and but its 5.5mm and a converter is included in the box.
In fact, i found that cable first before the shorter 3.5mm one 😀
If you like HD600 then you won't like HD599.
I find HD600 is too flat for me and HD650 or HD6XX are more balanced for me.
However, i do like the warmth of HD599 sometimes.
Are these any good for mixing/music production?
Metal music, specifically.
Absolutely not. Consider IEMs if this is as far as your budget can reach, but there's caveats to either technology for production work.
Really I've seen conflicting reports?
I know you should mix on monitors but I'm only doing music for a hobby. I am in the market for something to do my stuff without upsetting the rest of the house! :)
HIFIMAN HE400SE non-stealth via AliE for $80ish will stretch your money a lot further.
It's legitimately a better headphone.
@jasswolf: Thank you! 🎧
I have the older HD558, still my most comfortable set of cans.
OP just a heads up the tag for the post is to a 559 rather than 599 ;-)
PS bought a pair earlier today to compare against the new corsair open backs
Thanks
Just received them. Gave them a try, plugged straight into my mac. Phenomenal clarity, details and balanced sound. The build quality is too good for the price. So comfy.
Thanks OP.
I purchased a pair during the first sale at this price and have been very happy with them since.
Pros:
* the value for the $$$
* very easy ti drive it does not requiring an additional amp/dac when connected directly to PC or monitor 3.5mm socket though I sometimes run it through a Fosi DAC and plan to plug it directly into an amp/reciever down the road
* they are so comfortable, previous headphones would give my big noggin a headache after an hour, these I can wear for long hours without issue
* they sound great
Cons:
* initially muddiness in the midrange, not sure if they just needed breaking in or my ears have adjusted it but it was something I could pick up on the first week of usage
* weak soundstage compared to the more expensive models (I like a relative's HD600)
* short 3.5mm cable, it just reaches my seating position from the output location but can be easily replaced (website shows 3m cable included, will have to check box again)
If you live in Sydney there is a Hi-Fi expo coming up in April and last year Sennheiser attended. The staff were fantastic and they had most of their product line available for testing if you want to give it a go before going all in.
Highly recommended for those on a budget.
