Vornado Fan Options

I'm looking to find a fan cool my office room, AC and ceiling fans aren't available options.

I was tossing up between a Vornado or second hand dyson, currently looking at the $180 Vornado 660 on Costco, not sure if there's a better deal currently.

I did see some forums about the DC models being better but all the ones I see are more expensive, are they worth the extra cost?

Cheers guys.

Vornado 660 running 24/7 for almost 6 years now. Still running perfect with no noises. Took it apart for cleaning a few times, easy to do.

  • DC is worth the extra cost.

dc lets you control with a smart switch

Is a smart switch and running at a lower power draw the only benefits?

Silent at low speed so I forget to switch it off and use HomeKit automations to cover this off, The DC Vornados have a mechanical rotary speed/power switch which allows them to be controlled with a smart power outlet.

also due to it's very varied speeds you can aim it directly at yourself for a gentle breeze

  • Have you got airflow in the room? Eg nice big window if no vornado ain’t for u

Yeah got a big window, sorry for the ignorance how does that help?

        You said ‘cool room’

Too many times we get new people on here who are swept in Dyson fan hype get one and complain it doesn’t cool… then it turns out they have little to no ventilation… well guess what’s moving around then… yep just hot air.

  • I purchased a VORNADO VMH350 from Amazon about 3 years ago for about $250.00.
Very well made, heavy duty steel box, remote, great safety featurs, very quiet.
We take it camping with us, as such it has had a rough life…still running well, no issues

No-one's said it, so I will: The Dyson fans are overpriced pieces of shit. They look good, but aren't very effective!

The Vornados are good (I've got the 660 myself in my bedroom), but you probably won't want to use it at the max speed in your office if you've got papers on your desk. They circulate air really well.

    • I own a DC Vornado, three Xiaomi 2S DC/battery pedestal fans and a bunch of Dysons acquired pre-owned for silly money (AM09, HP01, BP01). The use-case for the Dysons is bathroom fan/heaters; easy to clean and aesthetically pleasing. In my non-airconditioned personal space/cave I use a Vornado 633DC for cooling and the Dyson HP01 in winter. I would say it's the Vornados that are over-rated; but I can turn on/off via HomeKit, it's silent at low speed and the small footprint and overall form factor works well on the floor behind my office chair.

Agree 100%. We have a Dyson and 2 x Vornados. The Dyson is so loud and barely moves air. The Vornado DC is so much better.

  • I have been using a Vornado 660 DC for 3 years, quietest fan I have ever owned.

  • Might be out of stock at the moment, but the 633dc was going for around $185 on goodguyscommercial

  • Hi @youiee,
I have the 660 sitting near me right now, and love it, great fan that I have had for many years. The only catch is the way my version turns on and off:

    • five buttons across the top of the unit, and
    • these require reactivating if you want it to turn on again after loss of power.

I think (without having one) that you would would need to consider the 633DC if you need the unit to restart with the return of power. If that is not a concern, then I would happily buy another Vornado 660.

A note on a smaller Vornado unit, the 533-AU model. For me this one is still working fine after a few years, but it has started to rattle a little at the highest setting. It does have a manual switch though, and will resume after power returns. For me, when the 533 does break down, given the huge hours the 660 has run without any apparent loss of function, I will buy another Vornado 660, or perhaps the the 633dc.
