    Finally some decent prices.

    • +3

More like insane prices, especially if you compare them with Apple, or even Samsung.

  • +5

cant comment on the other post so UYVJR96JL26L5TYHXYZC8IY and OTHBH9HL7LU3Y5QH7CN6WT9

    • +2

The mods have reopened the megathread :)

    • +3

Thank you, I used the 1st code

  • 7a or this?

  • pixel 8 pro or S24+?

    • +3

Waiting for a cracker deal on the ultra.

    • +3

For better cameras, get the Pixel. For better everything else pretty much, get the S24.

  • +3

One thing this has going for it is the 8 years software updates. Countering that is the chipset doesn't go near the one on the S24ultra.

    • +7

I'm in a position now where I've purchased the Pixel 8 Pro and have had it for about 5 months. Going to have to admit, whilst I love the camera on this, the hardware cannot compete with Samsung and bugs are constant.

Bluetooth connectivity is an issue, the modem is absolute ass and overheating is definitely an issue still.

Fyi, Samsung is also receiving 7 years of updates as well!

      • Yeah, if this was the price for the ultra I'd have jumped on it but passing on this one.

      • I'm so over the battery life issues, overheating and modem problems with my 6 Pro 😔

        • +1

7pro has none of those issues. Been very happy with mine.

      • I upgraded to the P8P from the Z Fold 4 a few months ago, and the only issue I've had during ithis time s the shrunk Gboard after using Android Auto, over the past couple of weeks. Otherwise, I'm very happy with this phone and tbh the only thing I'm missing from the Samsung is Dex, which I could also use wirelessly with my Samsung smart monitor. I don't game, so the performance is plenty for my needs.

      • +4

Haven't had any of the issues you suggest with the p8p

I use Bluetooth to connect audio on my car all the time no issues

I don't use phone for gaming so never have any heat or battery issues through normal usage and watching videos

        Never had any bugs

Cost benefit p8p vs top of the line Samsung or apple. You can't compete, p8p wins all day every day

        • I'd agree with the cost effectiveness, however, there are clear drawbacks as well.

This phone's performance is still very questionable long term, I use google maps and even then my device just overheats from general use!

I have had the phone restart on me a few times, fail 4k video recording, disconnect and reconnect BT (even with a factory reset). It's minor, but at the same time it's frustrating as well with inconsistency.

My biggest gripe is with battery life however, as on 5g this thing absolutely decimates itself. It's a shame because everything else is not too shabby at all.

          • @Zex94: I get a solid days use out of mine, which I view as acceptable, I charge my phone at night ready for the next day

            I am on a 5G network/ Sim

    • The chipset is very close to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, based on testing. Not as good, no, but the difference is pretty negligible. You will still have a very smooth experience and no issues with any games.

  • Nice but they need to get rid of that thick camera cover on the back, either make the phone that thick or a bit thicker or make the cover a lot thinner. Once you chuck a case on it the phone ends up that thick anyway, they could probably throw some more features at it and make a better cooling system etc. too. I just like being able to have no case with my phone but not an option with this design.

    • Haven't put a case on yet and it's been months. What am i missing?

      • With the p7p if you put it on its back it would literally move and slide on its own

        • Mine doesn't move. P8p.

          • @belongsinforums: Maybe they did fix it a bit, after my P7P breaking from a 5-10cm fall onto tiles they've lost my faith unfortunately, my Samsung S9 motherboard burnt with no warning and I lost everything on it with the phone so thats Samsung cancelled too, Apple isn't an option so Motorola it is for me.

            • @lookingforadeal7: Phones aren't meant to be dropped on tiles but i get the sour taste. These days phones are all pretty similar. Get whatever you can afford. I got it from the cheap Optus deal on launch

              • @belongsinforums: Yeah only problem is all my older phones both Google and Samsung have never been so fragile so we've gone backwards in terms of build quality, my pixel 2 XL was dropped from two stories high onto concrete and nothing happened to it, not a scratch. Unfortunately it's definitely the main 3 cheaping out on build quality.

                • @lookingforadeal7: My Google Nexus got a little wet in my pocket when it suddenly rained. Died instantly. My lg entered bootloop while it ran out of battery playing music

  • Anyone ever had luck getting JB to price match Google Store? Just got declined by chat

    • +1

I can't speak to this deal, but I did match the Telstra deal from a few weeks ago in-store at JB. I was denied by the chat as well before going in store and asking.

    • Update: nvm tried again and got the price match FYI for anyone looking to do the same

      • from chat or in person (i assume we still talking about JB here)

        • Yep JB, via chat

          • @nbar: nice - do you also get another $30 off from using the afterpay30 code?

            • @Taro Milk Tea: Haven't tried yet but I'm guessing you can

              • @nbar: just got rejected by JB to price match - did you get price matched after the UNIDAYS code discount?

                • +1

@Taro Milk Tea: Nope got price match for $899
Heavily doubt they would price match a price with a code

had the phone since launch, it is an absolute garbage of a phone

    • anything particular that stands out?

on the P7 i sometimes ready to smash it on the ground coz of the fingerprint scanner is so pathetic!

    • +3

I've had it since launch too, and it's been absolutely flawless for me. Best bang-for-buck I've ever had in a phone.

Maybe it would be a different story if I were using the phone for games or crypto mining?

      • Bang for buck since release? Wasn't it $1700 on release

        • Which flagship was relatively release better value in your opinion?

  • What can we use the store credit for?

    • +3

Cheap ear buds? A chromecast? Or (as I do) cloud storage.
I probably should run my cloud storage through some cheaper country (OzB style), but while I'm okay with the idea of losing my YT Premium access with 0 days notice (at some point in time), not so much for all my photos/docs.

  • -5

    Noicceee

    • -6

(Downvoted for upvoting a deal and saying it was nice? haiyaaa)

      • +1

Probably because the comment didn't add any value over a simple upvote

  • +1

I've had the P8 since last year, everything is great except the battery life when connected to mobile data. It is awful, it's like half capacity when connected to wifi and I've got no idea how to fix it

    • Have you been finding it different on other phones? That's how it's always been on my Exynos Samsungs - mobile data is power-hungry.

    • Try turning off things like Wifi Scanning under Settings > Location to see if that helps. Check other options under Network Preferences.

  • got s24ultra 512gb for 1250$ ish on launch day with $1 trade in. there will probs be better s24 ultra deals around the corner

  • How much are you paying for the 256GB pro?

  • +1

I paid $100 more last week, good phone for the price. I got rid of pixel 6 and 7 from overheating, bugs, etc. This one seems much more refined

    • Not if you read the comments above?

  • -1

Pixel 7 Pro is still better value than any of these

  • -2

Have had the P8P for a while, hating the camera; it appears as if the pictures are grey'ish. Even had someone comment if they were black and white!
I will be trading it in for a S25 when time comes!

    • do you have transparent case on the phone ?

      • Nah none, colour seems off. Did compare to a s22 which looked way more vibrant

    • +2

Lol wot. The cameras are the phones best feature

  • Such a buggy phone. Only good thing is the camera.

  • Shame shame shame, was waiting for this to happen, ended up with something else.

  • Poor SOC unfortunately

  • +1

I had P7P. Everything was fine until I dropped it. Despite of case and tempered glass, the screen was broken badly. Spent $380 for a replacement but the finger print sensor was dead and the phone became always super hot for no reason. Back to SS with S24U now. Google's hardwares are terrible.

    • My P7P cracked from a pillow height drop, literally off a pillow onto the ground and cracked pretty nastily. Just took my loss and sold the phone for what I paid minus screen repair costs. Wasn't worth the hassle for me.

  • Managed to get the 256gb pro for $1,196 via jb hi-fi price match office works, plus discounted gc and perks voucher. About 1 week ago.

    • How did you get that cheap price? Can you share your experience? Thanks.

  • -1

No working codes found, this is a waste of time.

  • +1

P8P all time low was $828 at release with Harvey Norman / Optus $69 24-month plan cancellation trick:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/803565

We got two units back then (256GB version, $100 extra), then sold off our P7P (512GB) for $1000 each for a ~ $150 profit.

  • The Pixel 8 is showing out of stock now.

    • the 256gb obsidian colour still available for $999, but yeah all 128gb are showing at 'out of stock' - might have missed the boat.

  • Back in stock, and code expires 31 March it seems based on Student Beans

Anyone know if this is one of those codes that will keep getting renewed

  • +1

Anyone else's Google store order get cancelled?? Ugh…

    • Ye got a cancellation and $45 store credit. It mentions if purchased under a promotion to put another order through and then they can apply a retroactive discount. Anyone had experience with Google on getting a discount after the fact?

      • Same thing happened to me. No explanation of why it was cancelled. Same $45 store credit and a retrospective refund offer for the difference between the current price and the promotional price. It's not specific if this is actually a refund or store credit.

Also curious if someone has been through this process before and can comment.

        • +1

Just got off the Google store chat. They advised the $45 store credit will be applied within 72hrs. The retroactive discount would be applied on the same day that the new order ships as a refund. It is still confusing to me because they said order was cancelled due to stock issues but that's is fine now. Don't know why the order is cancelled then and not just shipped out. Seems suss.

          • @kobe: Yeah super strange. Why put us through all the hassle of re-ordering the exact same thing??

            • @rms87: So my new order has been processed , and apparently already shipped. So no idea what all the fuss was about. Put in order at full price, then provided expired discount code via Google support, and have had a credit processed.

Also they seem to have given me a second $45 Google store credit. Absolute schmozzle

              • @rms87: Schmozzle is right :)
I was advised to wait for the shipping notification before requesting the promotional price refund.
Did you do it then or straight after you got the order confirmation for the new order?

                • @jerry28: Did it when it was shipped. There was a little back and forth as they were asking for the promo code which I didn't have, but I just grabbed another code from the thread and that seemed to get the refund processed

    • Same.
My Google One subscription was the 2TB/(AI Premium) plan. I just learned that this plan doesn't include 10% back as Google store credit
