This seems like a pretty good price compared to what card shops are selling for. I have no idea if these are going to be Japanese or English cards.

  • Looks pretty cool, but seems like a super expensive hobby to get in to. I've never bought any MTG cards before but I do somehow end up watching Black Lotus unboxing videos on YT.

    • I tried, kept an eye for a while and grabbed a Phyrexia box which I ended up opening and selling individually. Made more than my money back which was lucky, but there was a bit of hype over that set.
Other than that I've really only grabbed the Baldurs Gate set because I love the game and artwork.

MTG Arena was where I played most though, that's pretty fun.

    • There are many, many ways to play Magic the Gathering cheaply.

With that said, my friends and I are not in that camp and degenerately dump money into cardboard :)

      • Opening packs is just too addicting, let's be honest

  • Looking to get into magic and picking up a pre con, specifically veloci-ramp-tor, anyone know where's best to find this? Sold out everywhere as far as I can see

Unfortunately it was the most popular precon from that set by far. If you have game stores near you I'd pop in and check their stock and ask them, I've found them randomly at game stores still in stock (particularly less popular ones, with less traffic).

    $400 for cards ?

    • They're "collectors edition" packs.
Which contain unique versions of cards that you can't get any other way.
They have no unique abilities or anything, just unique art.

They're mostly targeted at … well… collectors. Rather than those just looking to play.

And they said this was going to "go to $1000" per box.
Give this another month or two and watch this keep going down and down.

The only chase cards are the serialised ones. All other cards can be found in the commander pre-cons and you can buy all 4 of the commander precons for $400 and have every single card possible. Only reason to buy this is to gamble for serialised and stretch mark foils.

Watch this drop to $250 within 6-8 weeks.

    • $305 on ebay, although i don't even want to pay that anymore. Commander Precons will probably flood the market anyway.

Fallout is tempting though, but resisting buying anymore.

    • Very similar process and trend with Doctor Who.

    • Prof (YT Chanel The Tolarian Community College) posted a vid this morning opening a box of this.

Paid $400USD for the box, cleared over $500USD in value. The actual chase cards from these boosters are the Vault-Boy alt-arts, rather than any of the cards in the decks.

      • The value only really exists if you crack it immediately after buying it, and immediately liquidate your cards into either credit or cash through a LGS who's willing to buy them all. I'd buy one of these when they get down to $200 just to keep it and display it because I think Fallout is cool. But these magic prices lately are a joke aye

  • These are like sports cards now, where there's a million different things and variations where it's not practical or even possible to collect a full set, and you're not even meant to any more, just to get some (artificial) valuable ones because they're supposed to be valuable, rather than regular cards that become valuable later because of what they are.

  • just proxy the shit out of it

    • though I did ask for a single collector's booster at my LGS (sold out)

Oh look how MtG has changed.

  • Pure scam.

  • So did anyone buy this and know if it's Japanese or English language cards?
