Seeking Suggestions about Lime Pitting in Bricks for New Build

Hi fellas, I am looking for some suggestions from this community.

I am building a new home, first homeowner. The problem is that over 50% of the bricks have pitting on them.

Apparently, according to the builder, this is the property of brick called Lime pitting. I asked them if there is limit to this and if they won't do anything even if more than half a brick has this issue. Builder said that they will call brick supplier to have a look. But they believe that no or any action will be taken.

Builder has done touch up in some of the bricks. These are pictures mostly after touch up being done. We are waiting on the brick supplier to do a site visit. Is there anything I can do about this issue? Any comments and suggestions would be much appreciated.

To be honest, I would agree with the builder. Nothing can be done as long as the damage is not caused during install.

These bricks are painted post forming and therefore, any chips/rubbing against each other will cause these marks.

Improves the look of those bricks

What are you hoping for? replacement bricks?

Maybe do touch up paint for the whole house.

        That would look AWFUL.

Builder is correct and I am sure variance was advised. Even with a more consistent product, say glazed cream brick, you would anticipate a level of glaze variance.

It's just part of the charm of brick. No one picks brick for perfect uniformity (well, they shouldn't).

    Looks normal to me.

Who is the manufacturer and what is the brick style called?

    • PGH, Dark zephyr

Some of the better bricks I've seen. It's totally normal for your first time build to get alarmed at these things; it won't be the last. Keep your head up and keep learning. Get a building inspector on your side to help sign off at each stage — the builder isn't always working in your best interest.

From a distance nobody is going to notice and nobody is going to walk around pointing it out.

This is normal. Job and finish looks great.

Bricks are not a consistent, homogenous product and you shouldn't expect them to be.

Gives the bricks character. Looks like a job well done. Just wait until you get brick efflorescence…

  • Shoulda used hempcrete?
