  • Looking for something that has soft lining pocket for a phone. It is a pain in the behind to filter any sling on the market for this.

    • Probably paranoia but I got worried about the lens on my phone so I got hold of an old drawstring glasses bag I had. I just slip my phone into that before I put it into my bag.

What's wrong with using pockets now days?

    • +14

I find slings and fanny packs quite useful when flying and travelling, especially with kids. Quick access to passports at check points, easy to grab phones, earbuds or other docs even when you're in your seat.

        • +5

(You can still wear this one under your jacket/hoodie/whatever have you, so its belt won't be slashed without slashing you).

If you are concerned you could go for one of these ones.

@dangerdanger: No worries Gen Zer. Glad you see safety is more important than looking cool when traveling in a different country.

            • @PainToad: I'm Gen X, but that's ok. Happy to listen to unsolicited advice and then ignore it 👍🏼

              • -3

@dangerdanger: Oh, I just assumed by how rude you are being to someone who just gave their opinion and advice that you must have been a child.

I guess everyone matures at a different pace.

                • -3

@PainToad: Your opinion is different to unsolicited advice. Some people just don't know the difference. But thanks again pops.

Your opinion is different to unsolicited advice.

You might want to evaluate why someone giving “unsolicited” advice triggers you so much.

                    • -2

@PainToad: Seems like you're the one being triggered 😂 Have you run out of negs?

                      • -2

                        @dangerdanger: Nope have another.

Not triggered but. I am intrigued what your problem is, however. Guess somethings will have to remain a mystery.

        • +3

          I didn't neg you.
But I mean what are they gonna do snatching your passports within the airport (I thought this was implied, why would anyone need easy access to their passport outside of airports?).
And they're not meant to safeguard valuables, they are for storing stuff you need easy access to in certain circumstances. If someone's hellbent on robbing you, you can be carrying a safe and still get robbed.

          • @zonra: Fair point. I can see the use case for while in transit. I’d still personally just buy a decent smallish bag that can be used safely inside airports and general travel.

But thanks for giving a counter opinion without being rude like certain other people.

Same. I have one of those diagonal over shoulder sling things that holds a small pouch on my chest. This is perfect for airports and planes because all the shit you're constantly getting in an out. eg passports, phone, phone holder, ear buds, snacks, and then stowing belt and phone etc during security screening etc. It just makes that whole process so much smoother because it's easily accessible at all times, even seated in a cramped airplane seat.

      • -4

        Granddad did 😂

Seriously though, it's a good sling. I personally have a different version and I love it. Buy it and use it if you want. Don't listen to ppl who try and tell you to 'use your pockets'. Lol. If you listened to that piece of advice, then we should all do without backpacks / work bags / suitcases too because… pockets /s

Teeny tiny bum bags (that are now for some reason worn over the shoulder) aren't really a fair comparison to the practical bags you've listed there.

          • -6

@PainToad: Thanks for telling me what is practical in my life 😉 I couldn't figure it out until you advised me

          • +1

@PainToad: you can wear things however you like, there's no rule about wearing these on the hip. Slings are definitely more commonly worn cross body these days.

            • -1

@GUYANDSON: Careful. Someone else has the monopoly on telling people how to wear their accessories 😮😉

    • +1

i like to wear these type of bags on my shoulder because it's fashionable

This dude clearly doesn't travel overseas… pickpockets, everywhere. Never put valuables in your pocket, always across your chest where you can quickly grab them.

      • -2

My comment about pockets had nothing to do with overseas travel.

  • Magnetic clasp, will be stolen in a heartbeat lol

    • You have to pull and twist it to unlock

    • Magnetic clasp, will be stolen in a heartbeat lol

How many times have you had a crook try and steal your bag then stop and go, 'it's not a magnetic clasp, let's get out of here'?

    • You pull your shirt over the top.

You also put it through belt loops so even if it is unbuckled, it swings and hits your nuts.

    • Just purchased the Bellroy Lite Sling in Chalk (white).

I've been rocking the Tomtoc since it arrived a couple of weeks ago and just say, I am in love with slings.

I think the Bellroy looks a little more aesthetic and sophisticated whereas the Tomtoc is pure function (still looks good though).

Hopefully, I will give both slings some good use over the years.
