Kings Jump Starter Vs Gooloo Vs Other

Looking to grab 1 (or maybe 2, so one in each car) jump starter pack… I know Gooloo seems to be to go-to here in OzB, but wondering if anyone has used the Kings one?

Pricing is a bit all over the place depending on which bundle you buy… e.g. https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/2x-adventure-kings-jump-sta…

  • gooloo seems to be the go

i think a big part of it was they were one of the 1st ones that had an option with very competitive price, good form factor, reliable, and easy sourced (amazon at the time)
much more competition on the market now.

Kings prices fluctuate so much that you never know if you’re getting a bargain or just duped with a minor discount following a price jack like Artiss products.

    • Hah yes I’ve noticed this when getting a gazebo a while back… every day different specials & bundles 🤦🏼‍♂️

Get a manual transmission so you can push start it if the battery goes flat. This also stops your car being stolen by millennial's.

    • Plot twist; OP is a millennial and now has to catch public transport if they buy a manual :)

      • Haha I can drive a manual fine; though think I am a millennial too? (Born 83… too hard to keep track these days)

Tried teaching the missus the drive a manual though, we decided it was better to stick to auto’s 😂

    • Millennial's are in their 30's and 40's..

How often have you had to jump start your car? Do you really need one of these potentially having the battries degrade in the heat/cool cycle until you need them and they wont start the car?

Ive got jumper leads, a mobile phone to call for backup or roadside assist as well.

    • Not often; maybe 5 times across the 20+ years I’ve been driving… and I do have jumper leads; but having a jump pack in the car would be a nice to have still.
Takes up less room than leads, multi function with charger for phones if needed, torch etc. Plus easier to talk the missus though using if needed & helping others if they’re freaking out over frying the electronics (this is actually what started me thinking of getting one… in laws battery was flat the other day… knocked back using my jumper leads and chose to wait hours for NRMA)

I’ve also got a Ctek charger and do a recondition cycle every 12months or so.

Kings gear in general is not good quality. I would go with anyone else before choosing their stuff.

  • I've got the Kings one, my diesel SUV had a dead battery and it was cheaper/quicker to buy one of these than join a roadside assistance service. I've since jumpstarted two cars (V6 diesel and 4cyl petrol) and the battery capacity went from 100% to 95% in one jump start. Also works great well as a power bank, the multi-port plug that comes with it is good as a back-up Lightning/USB cable of all flavours when camping. It usually goes on sale for $80 so I would not pay more than that. $160 for two is an OK deal if you are happy with buying two.

    • Pretty sure there was a bundle for one with a light or speaker for like $80.

  • Would recommend gooloo when on sale. Reliable through many uses over the years

    • Yeh I’ve picked up a Gooloo GT3000. Already had to use it once.

    • Both my gooloo and a mates died through lack of use, ensure you keep it topped up or perhaps frequently use it as a power bank and recharge.. I did manage to revive mine by opening it up and dumb trickle charging the cells again and then it would charge to full, however but was not able to jump start a car.
Despite showing 4 bars it died instantly. Discharged it completely and threw it out

  • Tried a smart battery charger but wouldn't charge the battery when it was 7V (drained from a faulty bluetooth obd). Kings jumped the v6 diesel only after being connected to the battery for 5min. couldn't jump start when first connected. Definitely a handy tool to have in the boot.

  • I'd go the Gooloo as it has a boost function and can jump start a car with no battery at all (see Project Farm's review on YouTube). I was caught out with a flat battery and had a cheaper Amazon jump starter (no boost function) that was almost flat because I accidentally turned the flashlight function on. I went to Coles and bought a USB C charger to charge the jump starter, but because I tried cranking it a a few times earlier the car battery voltage dropped too low for the portable jump starter. Had to call my wife to bring jumper leads.
