Yamaha NSP-437, 7.1 Satellite Speaker Pack, $399, Free Delivery from Rio Sound & Vision

This is my 1st post, but I've been lurking for over a year.

I bought a set of these about 2 months ago. I've only had time to set up the sub-woofer, centre and 2 front speakers. Great sound so far. Can't wait to get the rest set up.

Not too sure about this as a good deal. The same speakers as part of the HTS with the Yamaha receiver sells for about $900 (http://penta.com.au/video-audio/home-theatre-system/yamaha-h…) and given that the receiver is about $500, that means the speakers would be worth about $400. More diligence required to figure out if this is a good deal.

  • These were $360 yesterday (Rio had 10% off items already on special), was considering them but could find next to no info on how they performed so had to give it a miss.

  • I have a yamaha HTiaB and the speakers are good…. and they will of course be balanced…. but in general I wouldn't recommend buying them separate from a system unless you have a small room. In my case, for example, the kit including the receiver was not much more than the receiver alone. Basically, good kit speakers but they can struggle filling a large room when compared to a balanced set of decent separates. If you have a larger space to fill with sound and already have a receiver and are handy with the screwdriver, then http://www.theloudspeakerkit.com/categories/DIY-Speaker-Kits… can provide decent sound for a relatively low entry price, albeit will end up costing more than $399…. but you can always start with just a few speakers and slowly build them up….
