Fractal Design Vector RS Blackout E-ATX PC Case $114 (Was $229) + Delivery ($0 VIC, NSW, QLD C&C/ in-Store) @ Scorptec

590

Got this case a few days ago and very satisfied with it (I needed space for a lot of drives), great value for $114.

Pros: price, nice RGB implementation, flexible configuration and storage options, spacious interior, solidly built / high quality construction, quiet, fan hub & 3x140mm fans included.

Cons: Older design, restricted airflow (solid front panel with side venting), heavy, angular front and top panel design not for everyone.

Awesome price if you're making a server, this case it basically a define r6 which i currently use for my unraid server..

Can't say I agree. The only thing 'server' about this is it can have 6 HDDs in stock config. Looks like an average case with poor air flow otherwise.

But for the price seems decent

HDD space is literally the main thing a case needs to be used for a home server, Name one case for this price that can hold up to 11 3.5" HDD's?

        • +2

got 10 in my antec p101 silent, bit more expensive (but quieter)

note that for the Fractal looks like they only include 6 drive sleds - so factor that into price if you need that much disk storage.

        • Agreed, mine can (I think) but cost over $400

I think this case was reviewed somewhat poorly, but they also have the Fractal Design Era Carbon Mini ITX Case for $89 which is much cheaper than RRP.

    • Its a tight fit!

      • That's what she said…

yes, the moment I see the picture of this case, I know it'll suffocate the component within it.

  • The 5th picture made me so confused for a moment

  • It's the usb-c port meant to be 3.2 gen 2? The description says 3.1 gen 2. Is there such a thing? All this USB protocols is very confusing

  • $40 delivery kills the deal for me.. but I still want to get that one

  • What's the cooling like for a lot of drives?

Also, where can you get more drive trays cheap? (this is an old model of case from fractal)

    • +1

The rack of drives sit just behind the front fans. Good for the drives, but not so good for cool air reaching your CPU, GPU, mobo etc

I've got one drive in the top slot and two drives in the bottom two slots so airflow is unrestricted, obviously if you populate all 11 slots then it'll block most of the airflow.

You can find additional drive trays on Amazon, ebay etc, or try your luck with used parts (Fractal Design Drive Tray Type-A)

      • Can you confirm it comes with the ventilated top panel as well as the TG one?

Also is there room for a fan to cool the two drives at the bottom? It looks like they'd get no airflow.

I am looking to populate all 11 slots (well, at least 9), so don't want the drives overheating.

        • +1

Yep vented top panel is included.

All slots will be cooled, just move the rear 140mm fan to the front (total 3 front fans). This is what I did, and added a 120mm rear exhaust fan from my old system.

        • which type of RAID setup with 11 drives?

    • Get two, one with all HDD tray for server, one without for gaming.

  • Fractal Design Phantom 410

  • +1

why not buy an airflow restrictive case, when it's on half price

this case doesn't suck, because there's no ventilation to suck air in.

    • -1

There are vents around the sides so it's not completely blocked.

      • -1

Ah, so it does suck a little bit

Postage to WA kills the deal, sigh

    Standard Delivery From just $83

    Express Delivery From just $98

  • I would recommend to get this one from local CentreCom for $219 amd it comes with 2 * 180 mm fans in the front. You don't need extra fans either so it saves money there (although I have installed just one P14 rear fan just in case to be run with CPU). I have my AK620 aircooled 13900K with this case and it works well at 288 W. Should be alright for any other lower power CPU.

    • 3.5"/2.5" drive mounts - 1 (included) vs 6 included - 11 total.
There are many cases which could be suggested if hard drives capacity is not a required feature.

      • better to get an old server chassis (like old gen DL380 etc) and replace the MB then, comes with PSU etc.

  • The Montech 903 series is about to come out here soon (PCCaseGear has the ETA in about a month), and its the value king. For $130 for the Max version you get a good chassis with 4 140mm ARGB fans and a fan hub, perfect to pair with a Phantom Spirit for an air cooled setup.

  • If anyone else is curious about thermals, Gamers Nexus has a good review of the R6 (same internals as this case): https://youtu.be/cHGAJYcgBHI

  • Should I drive out to Tingalpa or pay the $40 shipping lol
