Landcruiser Prado 4cyl 2.8 L Vs 3 L

I'm planning to buy this Prado GXL. I need some ideas from you guys.

I came across these two Prado GXLs, which I'm really interested in. One of them is a 2015 Prado GXL 2.8L, and the other one is a 2013 (MY 2014) Prado GXL 3L. Both of them are advertised for the same price of 39 grand. And have driven around 150,000 kms. I just want to get an idea about both the 2.8L and 3L Prado GXL market.

Are there any known issues with the 2.8L Prado GXL in common? Is it much lower in price when compared to the 3L Prado GXL market? Which one is better?

  • How many kms on each? What is the condition and trim level?

My google fu came up with the 2.8l 150 series being a much better vehicle than the 3.0l 120 series. But that the 3l engine was more indestructible.

    • Both of them are Prado GXL. 2015 one is 6 speed auto 150k on the clock. 2013 one is 5 speed auto and 152k kms.

    • 2013 prado manufactured year is 2014 mate.

      • FYI, the MY in MY 2014 stands for Model Year, build/manufacture date is 2013 as per your OP.

        • Thanks mate

But that the 3l engine was more indestructible.

People often say this when Toyota replaces a long running engine with a more complex one. They even said it when the 3L first came out.

        Thats a good point.

    Google's broken again is it?

The 2.8L seems to get the vote as the better engine. It may be slightly smaller, but it produces more power, more torque, and better fuel consumption. It even gets the vote as better in the series 70 Land Cruiser than the 4.5L V8, which Toyota is trying to discontinue as soon as they can wean buyers off the idea that because its bigger it must be better.

(fropanity) how much for a 9~11yo Prado? $39 grand? Holy (fropanity). God, people need to get off the Toyota Kool Aid.

I want to check what a brand new one was worth 9-11 years ago but i fear that google is broken.
Might post a new thread asking on here soon.

How are they at getting to school parking zones where we have to park up on the non-car park areas that have grass on them? Or parking in median strips?

Any reliable reviews on how these go in the gravel parking lots at little league soccer events? I have 1 kid under 4 years old, will the 7 seater be big enough? My inlaws 50 metre driveway isnt paved, should I be looking at the AWD version?

I also mainly drive it on my 10km round trip to work during daylight hours, in suburban Melbourne, what bull bar, spot lights and long range tank options would suit me the most?

We were also planning to go as far away as Ballarat, can you recommend a roof rack and recovery boards for this trip?

You forgot the snorkel, in case it rains.

  • Fun fact with the 150 series GXL/GX from 2014-2018. Toyota in their wonderful wisdom set the low beam headlights/parkers to always on, even with the headlight switch in the off position. Classic cost-cutting DRLs, basically.

Are there any known issues with the 2.8L Prado GXL

Yes, they tend to be driven by pricks.

    • you are thinking of Rangers, oh and BMW 3 series
      .

  • are you towing or going off road
Either may be perhaps a better choice than a WRX

    • No heavy duty work. Going off road perhaps
