New tablets at CES 2013 (January 8-11) ?

Hello everybody,

I'm looking to buy a tablet and was wondering if it's worth it to wait till CES 2013? I don't mind waiting but I was wondering if companies usually announce new tablets then ? And if they do, are they usually released within a few weeks or does it take another 2-3 months ?

Thank you!

  • With recent releases of Surface RT, Nexus 10, iPad 4 I think all the latest and greatest tablets (for next year or so) are already out in the market; You probably won't get much benefit by waiting for CES.

In general yes, although you might see a memory bump/3G of the Nexus 10 then, and MS trying to tout the surface pro. I guess some other Android manufacturers will revise prices/specs to deal with the Nexus 10 price/performance.

It will take apple longer to realise they have an overpricing/underspeccing issue - June at least before that gets a refresh.

Surface pro will take another few months after that before it finally limps onto the market, most of the others will be basically immediate.

I say go for it now.
The tablets announced at CES won't hit the market for a while after, knowing some of the OEM's. It might be worth it to see how upgrades go as A15 CPU's become more prevalent - but coming from someone who bought a Nexus 7 after at least a year of waiting: you might as well just jump in now, you'll be glad for it, if you do.

The Nexus 10 is a great tablet, from the specs. I say just wait for some reviews to come out, to check on reliability and build quality, then if all is well: go for it. (If the Nexus 10 suits your requirements, that is)
If you're more into iPads or Windows tablets, then the iPad 4 and the Surface/Surface Pro tablets are already pretty damn good (though I would recommend the latter, once release, if you have the dosh)

In any case, new tech is always being announced all the time. If you want to wait for the next big thing, then you'll always be waiting :-)

Thanks for that, made a lot of sense :) I'm looking into the Nexus 7 right now.
