I just checked it was $5400 for a 6kw system on 2018. Why everything else is much more expensive than it was in 2018 but solar system get cheaper even with less rebate

  • Never really see much deals for Sydney.

Im getting mine installed next week.

6.6kw Jinko panels and 5kw sungrow inverter with full monitoring. $3500 fully installed on a double story.

My dad also got his done recently 13.2kw Jinko panels and 10kw Fronius inverter. $7900 full installed on a double story.

So I recommend shopping around if you are in Sydney as some quotes I got were stupidly higher.

    • Are these prices you're quoting inclusive of any NSW state-based rebates? Or just the STC?

      • +1

Just STC I don't believe NSW have any other rebates.

        • +3

Thanks, do you mind sharing with the community who you and your dad got the quote through? Your dads quote is very good too

        • +1

i'm also interested in the 6.6kw installer

    • +3

Can you share who you got that quote through please?

    • @MrPT please post the name of the company you used 🙏

    • I’m in Sydney and also interested in the company please!

  • I hear the 'cheap' systems with one inverter run off the worst performing solar panel, and I should only look for ones with micro-inverters. That way each panel does the best ot can.

    True?

Problem is they seem to be double the price.

    • +1

Depends if you have shading issues or not. We went with SolarEdge because we had heaps of large trees around; if we had a normal inverter, any panel that was shaded, the whole string would be limited by what that panel is producing. A lot more expensive than regular systems and only worth it if you are going to have shading issues…BTW, have been a bit disappointed with SolarEdge. Only 2 years old and already have had 2 inverters replaced and now have 2 faulty panels….

      • What is the inverter?

        • +1

SolarEdge panels only work with SolarEdge inverters I think. The inverter is responsible for individual panel management, whereas microinverters (Enphase) are on each panel and mange each one individually. If I had my time again, would go the Enphase microinverters.

  • I experienced long waits with this company and its yet to be connected correctly to the grid so i have an installation that has affected my bill.

    • Good to know, thanks for sharing.

    • Grid connection iirc is not up to them

  • Anybody knows if rebate is eligible on a second house?

    • Nope

    • Not unless it’s more than 10 years - I spoke to Solar VIC and they said one house or the other, you won’t get the rebate on both houses. Choose one and you’ll have to forgo the rebate on the second house for at least ten years.

    • Hopefully not, the rebate subsidised by the taxpayer should be going to people that really would benefit from it, not somebody that wants to double dip. Having a second house is a choice.

  • Qld ?

  • How come there are never any deals for Sydney?

  • +1

    Cheap does not equal good

    • +1

Exactly. Your home is your biggest investment and most are worth over a million these days, why would anyone save a couple thousands and go for the cheapest option with something that sits under the sun for the next decade or two (if it last that long), which could be a potential fire risk with cheap dodgy installation?

Most companies that offer cheap system will not be around long enough to support the warranty period. Once their service jobs builds up they will close the business down and start a new one. The solar industry is really messed up.

      • +1

The main thing is not that the panels or inverters are shit - as Trina is a good brand

But its the quality of the installation, that's where the cheapness of a cheap system comes in

        • Agree, the last thing I want is dodgy installer damaging my roof causing leaks etc.

    • +1

I think people should just factor $900-$1,000 per kw installed. So a 6.6kw system should be around 6 grand. Anything else is just cutting corners on equipment or staffing.

I walked away from a 15% cheaper price for the same set up just to go with a more reputable company. I wanted one that has been in business a long time and can actually talk me through the details of the process for the many "bad case" scenarios I walked through. A lot of places that haven't been around just gloss over that.

Also just didn't want rock bottom paid, unhappy subbies doing the install.

  • Hi OP, can you quotes the price for 6.64kw with battery storage and without battery storage? If choosing the one without battery storage firstly, can I add battery storage later ?

    • Kindly email us your battery requirements, and we will promptly get back to you with installation options.

Yes, you can add any AC battery to this system.

Is $4000 total cost of 10kw system? What is full cost?

    • The total out-of-pocket cost is $5400, with an optional $1400 loan available from SolarVIC.

  • Got a local company give me jinko panels and good we inverter for 1250$ + 1400$. But I’m guessing these panels are better.
Make sure you ask for quotes from more than one company.

    • Jinko, from what I’ve read, and suggest you do some research, pretty much low end panels but depends on how much you want to spend. Goodwe is common and fairly reliable for a Chinese inverter but there are different models. Others may offer some advice I’m looking at whether a better than Goodwe is worth it if I may put batteries on in a few years. Then upgrade the inverter to something better.

      • Jinko and Trina are about the same, both just a solid midrange panel. I’d be less concerned about the panel and more about the inverter, though Goodwe is fine as far as budget inverters go.

  • I prefer to pay up to 1/3 extra and go through one of the big energy providers. At least there will be someone there to sue if the system goes to crap.

  • I’m looking at Canadian Solar panels but alas it’s bundled with a Goodwe inverter, however I’m having trouble finding dealers who do the higher end panels and something better than the Goodwe inverters, which are quite common but Fronius which was state of the art 6-7 years ago, they haven’t kept up with some of the tech and features of the Chinese and more common inverters, but unless you are going down the Enohase micro inverter path which ads a bit to the Price. I’ve also looked at Tindo panels here with Enphase micro inverters it was about $1500 more than the Canadian Solar and both have good warranty on the panel and the linear output.

Still thinking probably only going to put in a 6.6kW system since I’d like to put in a battery as well, but I can’t afford the battery right now. I suspect that Li-Poly is probably going to change in next few years, too many incidents of Li-Ion/Li-Poly catching fire. Hoping that Li-Sodium / or the other one they are working on which gives more storage, faster charging and more cycles may not be too far off. My income can’t handle a battery and a 6.6kW new system to replace a 14 year old 1.5kW system.

In in VIC so I get the $1400 rebate and the $1400 interest free loan but I’ll probably have to finance the rest with a green loan which they all are 7-8% interest.

Any assistance or help, please feel free to offer it.

    • Unless you’re only about supporting Aussie business just go with a Chinese panel over Tindo. Only go for Enphase if you’ve got a shit roof or a ton of shade. Fronius is a better option in 95% of cases, the Gen24 is the best inverter on the market imo.

  • Yeah was thinking the same thing. I might get Energy Australia to quote but I’m not going to get the high end panels I want, well, I’m less likely too and being in regional VIC who is installing them, and where do I get my After Sales support from?

It’s the same as all the Melbourne installers, are they using someone local here in Bendigo to install or sending some randos up here for a day or two, plus I’ve also go to pay to get old 1.5kW system removed.

There are at least 8 companies here in Bendigo that are located here, at two or three solar installers who do sub work for Melbourne based solar sellers.

I’d rather get a local company to do the work, they know the area and I’ve got a bit more option. But most are against adding batteries as saying they are still too expensive. Right now I’d be looking at cash about a touch under $6K for the Canadian Solar panels and Goodwe inverter that’s including the $1400 rebate and $1400 interest free loan. once I factor in a battery, the inverter goes up and I’m looking at maybe I get a battery rebate but not sure whether it will be all too expensively ve.

    Limited income atm.

  • Not behd good soize.

  • I sell solar for another Melbourne based electrical company, the pricing here is competitive, though I’d ask for a smart meter as well. Goodwe is on the budget end of inverters but I’ve only had one of my clients need to replace one in my 5 or so years in the industry, which is less than I’ve had with Fronius which is generally considered the best string inverter on the market. Trina is a solid mid range panel too.

From what I’ve heard, they do a decent job and I believe they use their own installers.

I don’t want to hijack the deal but I’m happy to give a second opinion if anybody wants though!

  • Deals on some batteries op?

    • Sure! Can you please email your requirements to [email protected]?
