I'm Looking for Someone Who Can Teach Me to Play Golf

About seven years ago I just started with Golf and then I moved to Australia and didn't pick up much. Had a few lessons and that's about it.

I'm now looking to get into it and looking for someone in my area to teach me a bit. I'm in Berwick (Vic) and I saw there are a few people at the driving range which is around $60 for 30min. Feels a bit expensive if I'm just looking to get into it and just want to get to a level where I can play with a few other people. Don't mind paying, was just hoping it's a bit more affordable.

Anyone in the area that wouldn't mind helping out?

$60 for 30 mins is pretty standard. I pay member prices of $150 for 3 x 40min lessons at my local club which is considered cheap. Most club pros will offer group clinics which can be more affordable. A good pro will only need to see you once every few weeks to start with then once every 4-6 weeks once they are happy with your progress as long as you are playing rounds in between the lessons so you know what areas you need to work on.

Yea plan is to go to the driving range at least 2 times a week. I see at the berwick driving range its $160 for 3x 30min lessons. Don't mind spending that or 320 etc. If its enough to just get me going so when I play with the guys I can at least hit it lol.

      • It's worth getting lessons to get you going. I played as a kid but then didn't play for close to 20 years, going to get lessons when I started up again definitely improved my game just with minor set up and some technical swing changes.

Thanks for the info. Think I'll get a few lessons at first and go from there

  • Xgolf maybe?

    • Closest one is about a 30min drive and kind of looks more like its just for fun if you can swing already

Cycling is the new golf. Buy a bike instead.

I find I keep slicing the ball when trying to use the bike off the tee

Getting negged for some reason but you're totally right lol. The middle aged man with money sport has changed for sure.

  • If you don’t want to compensate someone for their time and skills, go to YouTube

Noooooo. Worst possibly advice. Even Tiger said if you want to get better at golf don't watch YouTube.

Problem with YouTube is that you type in "how to fix my slice" and you get all these videos focusing on one fix but that might not even be the problem, by getting lessons with a pro they will be able to see the problem after a few swings and give you the right drills to fix it.

Ring your local golf club. They will often have a beginner group that you could join for minimal $s.

Tx for some of the suggestions. I did speak to a trainer at the local course and decided to take a few lessons and go from there. Don't need to be a pro at the start, just to add this to my skillset to do it as a social thing. Maybe I have a secret talent for it haha.

  • Golf is not a cheap hobby if affordable is in consideration.

I went to my local golf course and signed up for some group lessons, that's the cheapest way to learn from a professional.

Take those learnings and go to the driving range. When I was young and DGAF I would go down to a quiet park and use it as a golf range (it was against the law).

Most GC's will have a practice putting green and a chipping area, so practice that for free.

    For clubs, buy second hand.
