I'm trying to help friends with a dead PC. The PC has an SSD + 2 HDDs. The User folder had desktop/documents/download/music/pictures/videos moved to what was the "then" E: drive, as the SSD (C:) was only 128GB. DVD was, D. There's also a separate 2nd F: drive (also HDD).
On their refurb replacement, I swapped in the old SSD (as they had a lot of old programs no longer available) and all works fine— except that even though there's a blank 2nd SSD, I can't seem to move those user folders off of the original E: drive (now in a dock as it is also failing). There's no option in the current User folder to "reset or move", as those folders are not located in C:\Users\this person, nor in the desktop user shortcut for this user. There's only the only user on this system.
Do I have to find a way to directly connect the old HDD (E:) in order to get the folders back?
Thanks for any directions. What needs to be done now to get things back in order? Please don't reply with what "should have been done 5 yrs ago". I'm doing this as a favour and just want to get them going again.
Cheers.
Just for others who might find this, I did end up reconnecting the original drives in order, in the new PC, so they showed their original drive letters. Yes, I do know how drive letters can be assigned, but it didn't help when they were already assigned.
I was lucky the old HDD cooperated. I got it all switched to the new data SSD and I also got the failing drive contents copied to another HDD, so all good.
