3 Free Screen Protector Replacement Service for 2 Years for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5/Flip5 or Fold4/Flip4 @ Samsung Service Centre

760

I went to Westfield Parramatta Samsung Store to have my Flip inner screen protector replaced for free. The lady took around 10 mins after I filled up the paper work.

  • Did they do it Infront of you? Interesting to see the process

    • nah, she brought it at the back, closed doors.

      • I assume they asked for proof of purchase?

        • yes, that's correct.

  • Nice! My Z Flip 3 only had 1 free replacement. I then paid for another replacement for $69, when the protector started peeling off again, I just traded it in.

    • Same experience, except I bought a third party protector on eBay for a few bucks which has lasted much better than my previous 2 stock ones.

      • I have the exact same esperience.

@Hardicus was it hard for you to apply yourself?

Can you share what you bought?

        TIA!

        • +1

Dead easy to install but I bought 3 just incase I screwed it up (which I didn't).

This is the one I bought https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/403372623705?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

Only thing I've noticed is that it has gotten a few dents since I installed it (likely from my fingernails or something) but I can only see them when I'm wearing polarised sunglasses. In any case it will be easy to replace with a spare when I can be bothered.

I replaced my flip 3 myself with one from aliexpress. Screen broke soon after and samsung fixed it for free

  • +6

mine just came off in the middle folding part after a year of light use. no damage or anything. If you need to replace that every year i won't be buying another folding phone.

    • This is exactly my issue, fantastic phone but average yearly folding screen protector replacement over about 3 years, and I don't even unfold overly often!

    • +3

Same here. This is one reason why i went back to a standard phone after owning a Z Flip 3. Overall, the technology/build quality on flip isn't very good yet.

This 'free service' sounds more like they are admitting there's a fundamental problem and they haven't figured out how to prevent it yet.

      • The fundamental problem with a folding phone is they haven't designed a screen protector for it? I keep it on there until it starts lifting (12 months+, usually humidity and to affect it more for me) and then I peel it off. To my surprise, the phone still functions after it's removal.

        • They know exactly this problem so they're offering 3 replacements for 24months on the Z Flip 4 and 5. the screen looks horrible with the screen protector coming off massive bubble line in the middle. the screen won't last long with out the protector as its fragile.

          • @Creamsoda: I've had a (Fold - can't talk to the flip) ZF2 and ZF4 naked and with the interior screen protector removed for extended periods, never replaced, and haven't had an issue. Plenty of people report the same. What happened when you removed your screen protector, or is your assessment based on belief rather than experience? In terms of scratches, the outside screen is the one you want a screen protector on.

        • +1

Mine came off a while back, but honestly, you don't need it. Being folded protects the screen better than any cover as it is.

    • wait till this guy finds out flat phones need screen protector replacing regularly too

if its not peeling. they experience general wear and tear

  • +1

After mine came off the fold 4 … They refused to do it after 1 year of use …

So i no longer use a fold phone.. the fold has a few issues

    • More than a few issues. It's so disappointing! Mine lasted a year then wouldn't open all the way. Eventually the top screen just stopped working. Phone didn't have a single scratch!

      • +1

youve never heard of manufacturers warranty?

      • Why didn't you just bring it into Samsung and get it replaced/repaired?
If you did that already and it got repaired without issue, and left it out of your comment, it's a bit disingenuous.

    • I had the Motorola Razr 2019 flip sold it because cracked outside screen but in the 4 years I owned it the inner screen never had problems…. If you can deal with the Motorola Ui it is built better than the Samsung……But if you have Samsung watch etc thats where you notice how good Samsung is….

    • My protector came off the fold 3 just after 1 year. It took a lengthy RMA process to get the protector replaced under warranty.

    • you refuse to use a fold phone over a $5 screen protector for a $2500 phone?

      • Yeah i sold it and got a regular phone…

        • no offence but thats missing the forest for the trees

          • @furythree: The protector part of the screen itself, it gives it alot more strength… The screen will be even more flimsy and will likely get even more damaged

Why do you think samsung replaces it free?

            • @hippyhippy: nobody argued otherwise

just saying at the end of the day, this may be 5th generation in. but still early days for this tech. shouldnt expect flawless perfection when buying such a device.

the point was that its a $5 piece of plastic. not that huge of a drama this whole comment section is making it out to be for people spending $2.5k on a phone

              • @furythree: It actually is a big deal because its a 2.5k phone… Something goes wrong with that screen and its 2.5k down the drain…thats why u need that protector

                • @hippyhippy: no im saying just grab one on ebay for $5 instead of having a sook about it cause samsung didnt do it for free

                  • @furythree: It aint the same as the factory applied one…

                    • @hippyhippy: theyre actually better

                      ive done it myself

dont buy the cheap $1 ones…

      • $5 screen protector? cost more than that for the foldable. i got mine replaced yesterday at the samsung service center, they needed to heat up the whole screen to properly remove and attach the screen protector then bake it. the guy said it will cost $35 per replacement after the 2 years cover is over. Also said the screen with out screen protector is easily scratched if sand or debris gets into the fold.

        • There's so much mumbo jumbo about this screen protector…this is from a Samsung US web page where they don't recommend or provide warranty to those who damage their phone while removing it, but provide this advice:

'The screen protector can be removed by carefully pushing a sheet of standard printer paper under the corner of the screen protector from the corner of the screen. This will lift the protector from the screen. Then, slowly and evenly peel the film from the screen with your hand.'

Is a bubbled/lifting screen protector a defect - no, it's a consumable, so have it replaced.

I have peeled a number of these off easily, it's not delicate. Is it hard to take off- no.

Have I scratched my inner screen without a protector over a long period- no.

Is it more likely to be scratched without a screen protector than with- yes (obviously).

What's the likelihood of it being scratched without- still very low.

If you don't have a screen protector on the inner or outer, through normal usage, what would more likely get scratched - outer.

Is Samsung Care, Square Trade or equivalent 'insurance' more useful than cases and screen protectors - yes.

    • +6

Not a valid neg, i didnt know that

      • It's literally just a PSA. This hasn't changed in 2 years+.

Anyone with a Samsung foldable knows. If they need a screen protector replacement and don't, they'll find it in a minute of googling anyway.

        • Used to be only 1 per year I believe.

  • Its a shame they only last up to 1yr before they crack at the fold. And unless you take it to a service centre then they have to send it away and youre without a phone for about a week

    • My flip 4 lasted a year, it's so annoying…

  • Online and on phone, samsung customer service ask you to backup and wipe your phone. I could maybe understand it if you drop your phone off at a drop off point where it has to be sent off and is gone for a few days.

I was dropping it off a Chadstone where they actually have the machine and do it on the spot. The customer service person took it around the back and installed it in 5mins. What a waste of time backing up as well as copying photos which took forever. Didn't back up Samsung notes specifically which I assumed was auto backed up in the backup process. However Samsung doesn't enable auto backup for notes onto cloud by default. Everything else is though! How stupid!

    • +1

Don't us e Samsung notes use Keep notes, download from play store and also download on pc where it is viewable when you open your gmail, Whether you take the notes on phone or Pc it is viewable in both if you sell your phone it's still there on Pc….I learnt when I went from Samsung to Motorola flip and didn't backup some important stuff…

    • Wiping your phone as part of the process protects both you and the technician doing the repair, so there can be no claims of foul play while they have access to your phone.

You don't have to wipe your phone but they obviously encourage it….

In order for them to run the touchscreen test, the phone needs to be unlocked.
So you either leave all of your personal/sensitive data on the phone and give them your passcode/pin etc, or you wipe the phone.

Not every Samsung centre has the machine, or the time, to do the repair within 5 minutes in front of you.
In my nearest Samsung service centre here in Perth, they're a popup shop in a Westfield.
They literally just take your phone and courier it to a third party service provider who's contracted to do repairs on Samsung's behalf, before its returned to Samsung and you pick it back up from them.

And if you forgot to sync Samsung notes, that's obviously a shame, but it's not Samsung's fault.

      • Its just dumb that everything for Samsung accounts will back up automatically when you select to back up…except for notes! Its the one thing that Samsung has off by default. When I was googling to search if I could recover notes (tried using recovery software without success), there were many posts about people getting caught out, assuming that when doing the Samsung backup it would back up notes too.

There's not many in VIC. Chadstone and Doncaster had machines, yet the first person on the phone wanted me to drop it off to a Harvey Norman, just because it was about 2 km closer to me. Luckily I called back to check something and they said to go straight to Chadstone as the machine was there and could get it done on the spot.

The person that did the replacement didn't even turn on the phone to do a test. They just replaced the film.

  • When my protecter started ripping out, I went there and they told me it's free once within 12 months but sounds like they bumped it to 3 within 24 months?

  • My husband did this earlier this year, he went to the Samsung shop in Sydney CBD and they took no details off him or anything which was odd!

  • I actually asked for free screen protector replacement via Samsung live chat last year, they told me I need to bring my Flip 4 to service centre, they need 24-48 hours to replace it then return to me, cannot be done on the spot at Samsung store, which is ridiculous so I didn't follow. Maybe they improved their service now…

    • If they actually have another protector in stock they will do it for you while you wait.

    • Not all stores do it..E.g in Melbourne the Doncaster store doesn't do it and they make you go to Chadstone instead

    • Samsung stores are hopeless because they send (ship) your device to a third party Samsung authorised repairer anyway.

  • Did you have to factory reset your phone? Mine all of a sudden started getting air bubbles in the crease and was told they will need to factory reset in order to replace the screen protector…. Not sure if I can he bothered with that.

    • I had the entire screen on my Flip4 replaced due to a hinge issue and it wasn't reset (YMMV). Doubt that they're going to require a factory reset to only change the screen protector.

    • I had recently had was screen protector replace on my Samsing Z Fold 4 at Samsung Store. Mine had air bubles and streaks in the centre crease.Your not required to do a factory reset. As long as your Flip/Fold is still under 24 months warranty. I was done on the spot which took 15mins to have the screen protector replacement.

    • +1

I also couldn't be bothered and didn't. Then one day the screen cracked right under the centre crease so I had to get it sent away for replacement in the end anyway.

If you leave the bubble there it'll eventually destroy the screen

    • There is something called maintenance mode which they turned on so you don't need to erase data. I

    • Yes I had to factory reset mine under warranty and take it to a "service centre"(Harvey Norman Nunawading, Vic)
Where they sent it off to a authorised repair shop where it took a week Lol

Looks like in VIC Chadstone is the only place they do it on the spot without resetting

      • If you visit the Samsung Authorized repairer located near EZY mart in the CBD, they offer "same-day repair and return" for your device if you bring it in during the morning.

No resets are needed as they will simply place your device in maintenance mode. Proof of purchase is necessary.

After repair, it's recommended to inspect your device! They attempted to dismiss a mistake as normal residue left inside the screen protector, but promptly fixed the issue on the spot.

  • Is this considered part of the care+ or just for everyone who owns a fold/flip 5?

  • Some people say they just take the screen protector off and leave it that way. They say they don't have any problems?

    • Well the screen can then get scratches.. but that's honestly better that the risk of cracks with a bubbled screen protector

    • I had the inner screen protector replaced at an authorised dealer last year. The replacement bubbled up at the seam within a month. So I took it off and it's been fine.

  • +1

I though they were transmission gaskets, been around cars too long

  • Ditched my Flip of barely a year old last night. Absolutely useless phones. Had constant issues with creases / the hinges not working, and the battery life would last 3-4 hours off charge for a light user.

    Don't get one.

    • The bad hinges are probably caused by phone drops. If you drop your phone regularly you're better off with another phone.
