Definitely not leak resistant. I bought 3x from the last deal and they all leak.

Edit: great quality nonetheless, just don't buy it as a water-tight container.

    • I mean leak resistant and water tight are two different things right? Like water resistant and water proof.

I have about 12 of these through previous deals and can definitely say they are leak resistant. As in if you have a pasta or something like that and you aren't storing it upside down in your bag it wont leak everywhere - from my experience going to my car and walking into work. Can definitely say it isn't leak proof, no one should be buying this expecting it to be water tight.

As in if you have a pasta or something like that and you aren't storing it upside down…

If you're only using it for pasta and other non-watery food, and aren't storing upside down, I have a little secret for you mate … You don't even need a lid!

        • Did you miss the part where I said put it in your bag? Pasta can be watery depending on what it is. If you are trying to put soup in this then I have news for you mate, time to go back to school lmfao.

The point is I see this comment every time these are posted, we are capable of discerning the difference between water proof and water resistant, why does it all fall apart when it comes to containers? Can you elaborate?

          • @doobey1231: They are not water resistant. That's it. (pasta resistant? Maybe)

            • @DontNeedThis: There is no claim they are water resistant

              • @doobey1231: Then why are you bringing up water resistant vs waterproof?

                • @DontNeedThis: Because I used it as an example in my first comment mate

Imo it sounds like you're saying these are water-resistant, not waterproof.

Anyway, they are not leak-resistant either. I learnt that the hard way (unless you're dealing with non-watery food) . I can guarantee your Sandwich won't leak out of these containers.

                    • @DontNeedThis: I am not claiming they are anything, I am saying their claim of leak resistant is accurate based on my personal experience of having them in my work bag. No you cant put it upside down or throw it across the room and expect nothing to come out, however putting it upright in your bag for transit to work, I have never experienced a leak from it.

If you want something that is leakproof then look for something that has that in the name. Understanding the difference is important.

                      • @doobey1231:

putting it upright in your bag for transit to work,

Can you please link me to an example of a product that leaks in those circumstances?

I'm just saying there is nothing special about these in terms of leakage compared to every container out there. However, leakage aside, these are really good quality containers and I quite like them for this price.

                        • @DontNeedThis: Why, we aren't discussing any other product. A soup sloshing around upright in your bag wont leak - at least it hasn't in my experience. However I walk, rather than run, so that might even change it. Leak resistant doesn't have a standards test so really we are just mincing crap. I believe it is leak resistant within reason, no its not made for soup, buy a soup container if that's your intention, but the occasional watery food it holds up just fine.

It ultimately comes down to how you interpret it, but people shouldn't be interpreting leak resistant as leak proof. Wording is important and if it was leak proof they would certainly be claiming it.

Same deal at Woolies (if you have not boycotted them)

  • One of mine melted a bit in a 900w microwave, which was disturbing.

    • Very 0.0

    • Oil? The lid?

        Must have been oil/fats.

It says you shouldn't microwave anything that is oily or fatty because once heated up it will melt into the plastic, also allow food to cool a bit before putting it into the container for storage. I have had some scarring in one container as a result of heating up an oily pasta so I am guessing this is the same situation?

      • Thanks good to know - oily pasta but not that oily. Was at the bottom corner inside the container.

        • Yeah mate sounds like the exact same I had, doesn't take much. I guess cause the oil heats up quicker than the rest of the meal. Makes the inside go a little bit white if I recall correctly.

  • Oblong

  • I get the appeal, sometimes I have to use plastic for my meal prep when I know i need to travel light, but stick to glass containers for storing and heating food wherever possible. Won't stain, and much less risk of plastic leaking into your food.

I really love these containers, I am at a point where I don't need anymore but strongly recommend for anyone meal prepping for work lunches or school lunches. I have a set of the red ones that have lasted 5 years so far no issues, just as the instructions say don't heat up fats and oils in it because they will melt into the plastic, only time I have had the issue is from an overly oily pasta(that I never ate again anyway lol). And take note as I said, leak resistant, not leak proof. Its not a water tight container so don't expect that when you purchase, having said that its perfectly fine for soups provided its sitting upright.

  • To make it water proof and also water tight, fully leak proof, I just put a cling wrap layer on top of it before I seal it. That does the job.

If it's pure liquid, like a soup or a stew, I put on two clin wrap layers. That really works well for me.

  • Switched away from these to $4.50 1L Ikea glass containers with the rubber seal for meal prep and they are so much better. They don't leak, the lids haven't deformed over time in the microwave, and they don't have issues with oily food leaching into them. Wouldn't use these Decor ones again.
