    Dota 2 (beta) has been free for over a year now, all you had to do was fill in a quick steam survey and then you got your key within a couple of weeks.

    I spose this is a faster and easier way to get it though.

        I can't confirm because I'm not on my PC atm but are you saying that it activates as DOTA 2 (retail) on Steam? Because the site says it's for the beta:

          Yep, mine activated as Dota 2 Retail, and I now have the installers for 'Dota 2' and 'Dota 2 Test' sitting in my library.
          Visiting the store page on Steam (listed as $30) yields "You already own Dota 2"

          early acess give you cosmetic item in game that why it cost money, the beta version is the retail version of the game

          Tried from another browser and the same .. might be IP loggged .. you could try disconnecting your router for 5min and reconnect to see if they give you another IP or try a web based "webpage browser proxy" … which I think worked but the one I found [http://www.boomproxy.com/browse.php?u=Oi8vY29tcHV0ZXJnYW1lcy5yby9naXZlYXdheS9kb3RhLTIv&b=13&f=norefer] did not load the images so it was difficult to tell.

          It's for Dota 2: Early Access; not sure if that's the same as retail release though.

          There is no retail release. This game use free to play model, it is still in the open beta phase.
          There is an early access package which you pay if you dont want to wait or know of any promotion, it give you free in game cosmetic item as well. This code doesnt however.

      use a different browser. Are you clicking using chrome? It seems a couple of people are having errors with it. Try using firefox or IE - it worked for me after getting that error

    I think it tracks the IP address or something so if u have a dynamic IP i don't think it will work if someone already has use it

          DOTA 2 is Free 2 Play.

          What they are currently selling is just an early access pass which is the beta + a few in-game extras.

    Isn't Dota 2 already released and is in FREE to Play?? sooo……. technically everyone with a steam account 'already owns' dota2 hence a few people saying they cant activate the key because their system already has one…

    UNLESS of course 'dota 2 retail' is DIFFERENT to dota 2 free to play… but IS IT?

      it is free to play, but invitational only. some people get invited randomly so they already own it.
      it is still in beta phase. i think people here are just confuse.

      Supposedly all DOTA 2 keys (whether stated as being beta or not) will activate the retail version.

      If you got beta access by doing a survey and applying through Steam then it is strictly beta access only and you won't receive w/e perks the retail versions get once the game is finally released as F2P.

        I don't think that makes any sense. It's just a different label to distinguish between licenses obtained through Steam, and those that are from an actual key.

        Everyone's going to be able to get it when it's officially released anyway, so what possible difference could there be? It's not as though they're going to revoke people's access.

          Usually when you make a claim like that, you have to back it up with something. What's your source? What kind of bonuses? If you're talking about the extra gift passes you get, I don't think that really counts as 'bonuses'.

        When it's eventually released and goes free to play you can just uninstall it and it will be automatically removed from your game library when you restart steam although if you have activated the retail version I'm not quite sure if that will work.
