I Haggled My Way into a $19 30GB P/M Plan with Optus

I recently got out of a phone plan with Optus and figured I'd ditch them given they're more expensive than other providers or longer term plans. I was paying $60ish a month for tons of data I didn't need.

So I opened a chat with a customer service rep (named Jameson) and basically said just that - I wanted to ditch for a cheaper option. Obviously they gave some spiel about cheaper plans or slight discounts but this didn't compare to what else was out there.

Then I figured I might as well see what they're willing to offer, and just said "unless you can match a $15 for 50GB plan" (referring to an Amaysim deal) and after a long period of them typing (… being on the screen) I was offered their $49 P/M plan for $19! This is also a 12 month deal, so will be on the hunt again come Feb 2025.

Now I really didn't expect this, and I'm not here to praise Optus by any means, but I'm just wanting to share this amazing info that might help other people squash their prices down.

In yearly terms: $228 per year for 360GB. Pretty solid even when compared to discount yearly plans!

Has anyone else found similar success haggling with these giants of the industry? I certainly didn't expect to get this much of a discount.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

You negotiated a deal. You did not exchange goods or services for it.

Funny not that i really use it a Choice 20gb data plan with Optus which was replaced too my previous older data plan the $15 5gb original data plan they use too have, so far havent paid for the new choice plan and now 1x lot of 2 months and 2x lot of 3 months on this plan provided by Optus too me for free, i keep telling them i dont have any need for their data plan anymore as im with Telstra or my other escuse is i cant afford it but online chat keeps insisting giving it to me for free obvisouly too keep me with Optus, the plan requires a credit card or a debit card which i use one of my debit cards with no funds in it lolz, not a super bonus in any form as no 4g or 5g speeds at my place but down the road can get over 600 MBPS, I guess only good as a data backup if by chance Telstra goes down well handy having a dual sim phone to place their simcard in
