I recently got out of a phone plan with Optus and figured I'd ditch them given they're more expensive than other providers or longer term plans. I was paying $60ish a month for tons of data I didn't need.
So I opened a chat with a customer service rep (named Jameson) and basically said just that - I wanted to ditch for a cheaper option. Obviously they gave some spiel about cheaper plans or slight discounts but this didn't compare to what else was out there.
Then I figured I might as well see what they're willing to offer, and just said "unless you can match a $15 for 50GB plan" (referring to an Amaysim deal) and after a long period of them typing (… being on the screen) I was offered their $49 P/M plan for $19! This is also a 12 month deal, so will be on the hunt again come Feb 2025.
Now I really didn't expect this, and I'm not here to praise Optus by any means, but I'm just wanting to share this amazing info that might help other people squash their prices down.
In yearly terms: $228 per year for 360GB. Pretty solid even when compared to discount yearly plans!
Has anyone else found similar success haggling with these giants of the industry? I certainly didn't expect to get this much of a discount.
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
You negotiated a deal. You did not exchange goods or services for it.
