"The Fiskars X17 M Splitting Axe is ideal for splitting medium logs >20cm"

Usually $111.98. I have the X25 and it's brilliant. Personally, I find the X17 rather short (I'm 5'10")

I have an x17 as it is a nice size for space-saving in my tourer. Every Fiskars axe I have owed has been excellent. There is a reason every other brand seem to be ripping off their design.

Finally found something to go with my balaclava deal

A deal for a shovel, a bag of lime and state forest map. And your serial killer set is complete.

  • Wonder why the xX17 has been reduced but not the x25.

Haha.. I read it 'Fix Arse'

  • I have this and the x27; as a rule I'll use the 27 but I'm pretty tall and like a full swing, so for me it's a bit short - but both axes are excellent.

At this price I'm tempted to get another x17 and keep it in the 4x4.

  • Not a fan of axes when chopping Australian hardwood. I find the Saxon block splitter from Bunnings more than capable at around $25

    • Australian hardwood is tough and hard work to chop a big pile. I have the Fiskars Isocore Maul for when more power is needed. It's an incredible tool but breaks you if you need to do a lot!

      • Try the Fiskars maul, it's a beast

I tried the Saxon one and it was horrible, needed to resort to using wedges and even they would be a pain to hit into the wood. Cracked it and bought the Fiskars maul and haven't used a single wedge since. I alternate that with the X27 and they are both phenomenal and worth every cent and urge everyone to just buy the Fiskars first

I found the Saxon block splitter to be terrible, just kept getting stuck in the log. Returned it and bought the X25…incredible axe, no comparison.

  • I have this and the X25 (and their Isocore Maul). This is fine for smaller jobs and is a great tool but you need something a big more beefy for tougher, bigger logs.

  • I'm not tall but i have this and i think it's a tad too short. But you get used to it and is amazing axe. I wouldn't use it to split though

    • What do you use it for if not for splitting?

      • +1

It's a good logging and felling axe, good for prepping trees for felling, setting wedges and clearing small branches. That's what mine is used for.

        • Ahh fair enough. I have my X11 and I’m using that for splitting LOL

@ddxsamx: Don't get me wrong though, I do use it to split too lol but it's not quite as effective as the 8lb splitter I have but the X17 is the right balance of weight and size to be a multi-purpose axe

@ConsumerAffairs: Yeah cheers, I might go check them out in store tomorrow. At that price it’s quite tempting

  • ..and my axe!

  • So I’ve got an X11 that I take to car camp (4wd) and split ironbark logs (and anything else), any recommendations if I should get this or just go straight to the x25? I’m thinking the x17 would be a good step up whilst still being pretty portable?

    • +1

The X17 would be perfect to carry in a 4WD

  • Looks like a good price. Think I’ll go check it out to see if it’s big enough. Who are they competing with price on this?

    • Had a look today and it’s too small for my liking.

  • Fiskars make a damned fine Axe. They don't go on special very often either. Definitely a deal worthy of snapping up.
