Am I correct in noting that the 1030 is the older model?

Does anyone have any experience with respect to the newer 1040 model?

    • This is the 1030 Plus which Garmin sell as a stand alone computer for $999, without the bundled Heart Rate Monitor, Cadence sensor and Speed sensor.

not personally, but the differences are called out in this review

I have the 1040 solar. I previously had the 1030. Before than the 1000, before that the 510. Before that the 500…..
each model has been a significant upgrade over the previous

    • I went from a 530 to a 1040, although I am probably not really using many of the features (I just load my screen up with data fields and use the MapDashboard ConnectIQ addon to also load my map with data fields). Two big upgrades for me were 1) the rerouting features where if I even deviated from my route a tiny bit on the 530, it would perpetually try to send me back to the point where the break was made even when I had already rejoined the rest of the planned route, and 2) ClimbPro activating on the 1040 even when I didn't have a route loaded.

I could be mistaken as I haven't owned the 1030 Plus but I don't think that it has the ClimbPro anywhere feature (you might need to have a route loaded), and I vaguely recalled seeing a forum post and there's also a youtube video where they indicated that the 1030 Plus might be better in returning you to your route than the old ones.
