You can pay for Amazon Prime using you amazon gift card balance
This means your $79/year plan can be reduced down effectively, (as you can get discounted gift cards and use them to pay for prime membership).
use it while you can, cheap prime again (may not be $59 after discounted GC for you like in past annual prime cost or may be ?? IDK).
Only requirement is you are not a prime member currently, and you got some gift card balance.

Is it just me or has it disappeared? I don't have any option to add a payment method, just View all printable receipts and Edit payment methods.
Edit only lets me change or add credit/debit cards (or Zip). Maybe because I don't have any gift card balance at the moment but I thought it might be an option of use gift card balance first if available type thing.
Same here. I have gift cards loaded on my account but I don't see an option to pay Prime with it.
Option was there for me. Only have a few dollars balance at the moment but was able to check the box to use gift card balance. Link in magic8ballgag’s comment above took me straight to Prime page in the app on my iPad and selected the payment options from there.
I have about $140 credit and the payment page looks pretty much like the standard checkout - use balance of X, and then selecting a backup mode
Asked about it on live chat, whether it was a gradual rollout. CSR didn't know anything about it, only info they have still says card only.
They did say to send a screenshot showing the gift card option for AU if anyone wanted to share one
Reminder: If you are AMEX Platinum Charged Card holder, make sure you DO NOT use your GC to pay for the membership fee. Charged the membership fee to your card and the fee will be rebate back into your account.
You can finally use your discounted gift cards to get a discounted Prime membership.

Good to know. About time too, US has been able to pay with gift cards for ages.
