    • Thanks my guy. This was the only way I was able to get the option to purchase outright.

    • Hmm, so I tried this method and when I click Proceed to checkout it asks me to select or set up an account for this order. When I click Personal account and go Next I get an error saying 'Unable to process the order. You need a plan associated to your account to buy the device outright.'

Anyone else getting this error and know how to get past it?

      Thanks, perfect instructions.

  • I take it the Apple watch is sold out?

    • Seem OK to me with the 45mm.

  • +5

confirmed by phone: as outright purchases - without any plan or membership/account - are available in-store, Officeworks and JB Hi-Fi will price-beat/match in-store, subject to staff verification, such as calling a Telstra store themselves - showing them the My Telstra app should also help, screenshots:

    • +1

If the Pro Max is $2249, there is no discount to it…

      • sorry, thanks - as per screenshot, it's actually meant to be 512GB not 256GB

    • Did you call OW and confirm that they will price match"

      • yes

        confirmed by phone

        • -1

price beat by 5% done by ow?

        • +1

I have price matched with jb hifi twice and officeworks only once. And I tell you whatever you think your heard from office works it was a lot harder to do then jb.

    • I did call Officeworks and they said blunt NO as Telstra requires membership even though the deal is outright as Officeworks employees cannot access these prices without logging in.

      • I had the same experience calling OW customer support today, although my reason for NO is because you had to bundle the phone with a plan when purchasing online. But the above post is saying OW will do a price beat in store, that I haven't tried. Anyone had success doing an in-store price beat with OW?

    • @niroshbest screenshots are here

    • could you please share the iPhone 15 256GB outright pink screenshot? Thank you

    • Hey can you please attach a 15 Plus screenshot as well since I can't get the outright price to show up on the website. Would appreciate it a lot.

  • Tried to pricematch at OW in Chatswood NSW, no luck. Went to buy a $2 Telstra sim and bought online from the telstra app.

Maybe you guys will have better luck than I did. Oh well.

    • what was their excuse for not price-beating?

      • +2

Because they didn't want to. It's the standard excuse.

        • -2

if that's true, then surely you didn't accept it, given that it's not a valid reason?

  • Tossing up on the Apple Watch 9… Plan was to wait until the X, but price seems decent here, currently on an SE 1.

Anyone who did a similar change and regretted it later?

    • If you don’t need the SIM I would be waiting until the new one comes out and seeing what the price becomes.

    • +1

I’m in the same spot with an se1 44mm
Wanted an awu2 but tempted by 659 for 45mm s9 ($550 outright with rewards points)

      • Yeah, I slept on it - decided I must HODL… Who knows what the Watch X will bring, but at the very least series 9 should get a little cheaper. Plus my SE 1 really doesn't have any problems.

  • Is it the batch made in India or China? 20% off highest discount in the Apple phone history so far? Assuming the labour is cheaper in India and the fall in sale in China, this deal is to justify maybe.

    • +1

20% off highest discount in the Apple phone history so far?

      no

      • That deal is iPhone 12 left over, this deal is current model…..

Compare the two is not even Apple and Orange, its more llike….. Durian and Mangosteen🤣🤣

  • +1

    jb won’t price match, offered $18 off…rofl

    • JB is hilarious. They gave me a deal for $1848 and the link expired so i asked again and they gave me $1999. I showed them the $1848 screenshot and they were like we cant do it again.

      • yeah dont think jb or OW accepts screenshots, they'll check it real time

        • No i mean i sent a screenshot of the deal JB offered me a day earlier. Same retailer

    • did you try in-store?

      • No, Ill do it over the weekend. Hopefully someone does before and lets us know what the result is

    • this will be unpopular but JB is just as bad if not worse the Harvey Norman

  • hi all, i know im late but considering the previous posts and doesn't look like any workaround works , appears you can't buy this phone outright anymore? and its only showing plan details?

    • +1

You can buy it outright in store

    • Might be worth trying in store. They still mention something about outright purchases in the blurb.

    • outright prices in-store and via app (credit/thanks to @Pinchy)

      • Ah shucks they can’t really match price with OW if it’s not on their website

        • they don't necessarily need to be on a website for them to price-beat

  • Hello All,

Those who have already purchased, does telstra provide invoice with gst details as well on purchase? I’m travelling overseas next month so can claim the GST

    Thanks in advance

    • Word of warning, some claim that they now tag passports that has done TRS (totally possible). SO there is a chance on your return they will flip your luggage inside out to see if you bring the phone back.

You will need two person duty free allowance to bring the phone back in Australia tax free.

      • Is this hearsay or has someone you know actually experienced it…I am curious…it seems plausible but I am not sure if they are actually doing it?

        • From OZB comments, saw it mentioned in s few occasion. I have not done TRS for a long time….

Just clarify, I think its not tag your passport but the TRS (high value) will trigger a flag for customs to check, which is dead easy.

My wife also mentioned when she purchase a Chanel bag for friend in China, she was asked on the way back if she has any high value item that need to declare. She said no and they send here bag to X Ray.

          • @syswong: I don’t think they would be bothered monitoring this … plus when you go back into Sydney airport, you just collect your luggage and then if on the paper customs form declared no to everything then you go through, it’s only if by chance/random you get told to go through customs X-ray. They have so many people coming through you think they would be bothered people bringing back iPhones they declared departing Australia ?

          • @syswong: How much was the bag? I know there was a case on the show Border Security where a lady claimed GST on diamond earrings and they searched her bags to see if she brought them back in…she almost got away with it - until she pushed her hair back behind her ears and they say her wearing the earrings :-P

            • @SunnyinDubai: Why do these people consent to being on the show?

              • @try2bhelpful: I honestly have not idea but I wonder - do they have a choice? I have seen some where their faces are blurred out so I do wonder if they don't have a choice but could be wrong…

                • @SunnyinDubai: I think they are asked for permission but I find it hard to believe some people would OK it. Maybe if you are deported you lose your rights in Australia?

It is interesting with the blurred faces. We watch the “24 hours in Emergency” program from the UK and there are staff with blurred faces. I wonder if they didn’t get explicit permission to show them.

                  • @try2bhelpful: True but until we find someone who has been on it - we will have to keep wondering…

I think with the 24 hours, I saw a doc where they showed how many cameras were put there for the filming so maybe it was a case of well we have no way to ask people not to be a part of whatever is happening and also it is probably unethical for them to tell someone to stop performing a medical procedure for a show…

                    • @SunnyinDubai: Probably not possible to chase up everyone to get permission. That show needs a “look away now” warning. I hate the fake reality programs but I am a tad addicted to the documentary ones. You don’t need to manufacture drama when you are dealing with real stuff.

            • @SunnyinDubai: no idea, it is actually purchase request from her friend and lucky she is not into these kind of stuff.

Yes I read the diamond ring story…..🤣🤣

      • You will need two person duty free allowance to bring the phone back in Australia tax free.

fyi if ABF don't have a record of the serial number, then someone else is more likely to be ok by themselves than the TRS claimant alone

        • I was not taking about the serial but the tax fee amount.

          • @syswong: i was talking about both - perhaps you didn't understand/catch what's being implied/suggested?

      • Have u seen the queue at Melbourne airport lately? They don’t even have room for checking your luggage for food. Unless they want to be holding up ppl for even longer. Just to save custom up to $200 in gst?

  • They got bigger things to do then to fight over 100$ gst, and anyways I won’t be getting it back, but neither experienced nor heard about it in last 10 years of travelling.

    • +2

Well to be fair, they changed the rules during COVID where we could not claim the GST and then changed it again with the new requirement that you are meant to declare the items if they are brought back into the country though it has been a bit of a mixed message as we were told in Dec that if we exceeded our tax free threshold, we needed to declare the items if brought back in which was not quite what I understood things to be…

      • +1

TRS-claimed items have always been required to be declared if brought back into the country

        • As far as I am aware, it was not explicitly stated but it is now explicitly stated…of course if you exceeded the threshold, then of course you had to declare all items, including anything for which you claimed TRS for…

  • Optus is price matching the interest free monthly plans . Might be worth checking the outright option if anyone interested .

    • where you see that?

      • Optus online chat can match the price. I asked yesterday, but the cheapest plan is $49. 12 months contract is available

        • This is the way i went. Got an awesome price on a 512GB Pro Max. $1848.

          • @Arw: Did you sign the contract online on their website or manually processed by chat? How do they apply the $300 discount? Deduct monthly or refund to bill? Thank you. I did ask the price but didn't ask them how to do it.

            • @sydracing: I just talked on chat. Asked them to price match and they came back at me with the price.. I already have services. Recontracted one. Will apply as a discount on the monthly bill. Received a seperate email about it. No trouble to price match. Just had to send the link.

          • @Arw: With a 12 month contract too?

            • @Pinchy: I got offered the option of 12,24 or 36 months

          • +1

            @Arw:

            512GB Pro Max

iPhone 15 Pro Max 512Gb? How do you get to 1848? is that with trade in?

          • @Arw: is it really 512gb iphone 15 pro max ??

            • +1

              @backupper1: Yes. No trade in.

              • @Arw: Wonder why they give a $700 discount on a 12 month contract.

Do you have some screenshot to share with other OZBs?

                • @syswong: @Arw can you share the screenshot with the community, you sure its Pro Max and Not the Pro?

  • Hello, please confirm if telstra send invoice with gst.

    • I brought it as outright via the website on yesterday morning. The phone is delivered on today. The invoice can be download from the app (past payment area). The invoice looks very simple. But it included necesscary informations, such as your name, your address. full amount, gst amount, ABN, and date of purchase.

  • Ok guys.
After reviewing the entire comment section, it seems that nobody has provided a clear solution to the questions posed. Here are the questions:

    1. Can I create a Telstra account without their phone number?
    2. Has anyone bought from Apple with a 10% discount, which amounts to $210 off? Not bad. I attempted to do this, and the representative on the phone instructed me to send a screenshot of the page displaying the offer, including the iphone I wish to purchase, so they can perform a price match(10%). Unfortunately, I do not have a Telstra login, so I cannot replicate the offer.

    3. If you want to buy outright from Telstra, can I buy a $2 SIM card and add a $10 recharge, then create an account and make the purchase?

    Thanks

    • +2
      1. You cannot create a Telstra MyiD without their phone/account number
      2. If you check, couple of comments up from this one, someone posted the screenshot for the discounted price, can use that for apple maybe.
      3. Yes you can do that, someone did it and mentioned it in the comments. Alternatively, you can go to a telstra store and buy it outright instore without a telstra account
      • very clear. thanks. if you see the screenshot for the discounted price, please tag me:)

        • +2

The guy has answered all your questions, the least you can do is find the screenshot yourself it’s not that hard mate lol

          But here you go geez
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14980912/redir

        • I checked with Apple and they said they can't price match with telstra as it requires membership with them. Were you able to price match with them?

  • Do we think this will be the best deal on the iPhone 15 in next month or two? Going to upgrade soon. Unsure whether to cop this or wait for some sort of JB deal + discounted GC's or something.

    • If I had a crystal ball, this would be the last thing I would be using it for.

In the end, at some point in the future, it will be worth $0. There's a freebie for you.

    • +1

      It is.
Apple is trying to get people who have old phones and watches upgrade to newer gen as there are far too many really old apple phone and 3g apple watches still on market. There probably won't be another sell according to a friend who is an apple rep.

      • I’m sure Apple don’t have to do anything, old iPhones eventually will just become slower and then it annoys the owner then eventually they are forced to by new phones plus also due to apps that support latest versions of iOS and they starting not to support old iOS versions etc

Nice your friend gave you some insight, I have a good mate that works at Apple and I try to get some info from him but his all NDA on me, fk I’m not asking for the blueprint of the iPhone just give me some idea if I should update my iPhone 11 Pro to iPhone 15 or should I wait till iPhone 16 gosh lol

        • Just my guess that 15 series will get the AI stuffs which will be released W 16 that's why they are pushing with this month long sale so more older phones are upgraded to 15's. It's all hush hush but something is happening ( some announcements, nothing major) within next couple of weeks. Also with the sale price right now , go for the upgrade as resale value won't be bad if you have to next year.

          • @avseqcfc: True but if I got the iPhone 15 now, unless something way better happens in iPhone 16 then I’d prob just stick with iPhone 15 then, yes I could resale if I wanted badly to move to iPhone 16. Anyhow let’s see how it goes 😅 I’m still trying to see how to get OW to match this Telstra price lol

        • Actually it isn’t the slow phone that got me to jump it is the better camera. My phone is mainly a support system for my watch and my iPad. However, it is also my camera and we will be travelling in Europe later this year.

          • @try2bhelpful: Yeah facts, for me it's not much to do with the IOS, I have Iphone XR and it's running pretty fine, only issue is battery life.
            Main other upgrades are for:
            1. Camera
            2. Running out of 64GB storage (lol)

Probs will cop this deal, thanks for the comments

            • @Twitchh: No probs. My current phone is on only 64 GB as well. I went for the 128 GB because the USB C means I can connect a storage device to offload.

      • 100% speculation follows, but I wonder if maybe a new SE is coming this year.. The 2022 model came out 18th March, and this deal ends on 19th March which is a nice coincidence. I was discussing my options a month ago with staff at another mobile provider, who told me they can no-longer order in the SE and it was only stock-on-hand they were selling, which I found a little suspicious and just assumed they were mistaken or it was a management decision.

Anyway, I'm really tempted to get an iPhone 15 because of this deal, rather than wait and see what happens in the next year.

  • +4

I went to a few Officeworks and JB stores in the eastern suburbs of VIC, but none of them of them were willing to price match this deal. I showed them my web chat log with a Telstra sales rep stating that you can purchase outright with in-store without an existing Telstra ID, but they tried to talk their way around it, saying that the rep could be misinformed, or that Telstra would somehow force you to sign up for a plan after you join ._.

I also tried price beat/matching Skytree as suggested by this thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/831915, but they were unwilling because it's not clear whether they sell Australian stock.

The best OW were willing to do was price beat Costco's current price ($1,799 x 0.95 = $1709.05 for iPhone 15 Pro).

    • sorry to hear, but unfortunately a web chat isn't sufficient for price-matching - did you show the My Telstra app (or screenshots), and ask them to call Telstra (store) to verify?

      • I tried at my local OW yesterday and was denied too. They said they need to be able to locate the price themselves online and do not do price beats based on calling a store and verifying the price that way. And I think you need to be a Telstra customer to access the outright purchase option online, which is another reason they'll deny it as the deal needs to be available to everyone.

I can try the screenshot method, but do you have one for the Pro Max 256GB?
