Surely no one would pay RRP for this? I'd go with Duplo instead.

    • +4

      That RRP is ridiculous hey?

    • Thomas is even better value

    • You haven't seen Brio prices then

    • Duplo is crazy expensive!!

      • +1

        It's an investment!

But seriously, it's all over marketplace, if you keep an eye out you can find a good bulk deal. My parents kept ours from when we were kids (30+ years ago) and now our kids play with it.

Whereas we've been gifted 2 of these wooden type sets, and they are generally (not sure about this specific one), flimsy (bits snap/break), clunky (the track connections are really loose, and the train wheels in the track slots are loose), and the magnets are weak. etc.

Duplo is good quality. It's literally Lego but for younger kids. Not to mention awesome, plenty of times I've made multi storey train tracks, or trains going up/down the stairs and all around the house, with like $100 bucks or second hand Duplo tracks.

        • Brio and even Hape are decent, the track connections are solid. Other brands can be flimsy. Just FYI.

Though I’m not a fan of the increase in plastic over wood as the wooden bits are more charming and durable.

  • I cant seem to find the answer, are the trains battery operated? Looks like you can buy some that are.

Had the same question - from one review:

Great train set, my kid liked it. I had to buy battery operated engine separately. Overall I will recommend it.

It doesn't look like this set is. I think the track size is compatible with the battery-powered Thomas trains.

    • Yes, they have battery-operated ones: this deal was very popular (I bought one myself) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/827783

      Takes 1x AAA battery.

      • it requires 2 x AAA batteries

      • I found it a little slow, their other train's better

    • Go to AliExpress, many there are compatible, like this one https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005495465670.html or this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004281029477.html

Also, I got the white bullet train like with 3 buttons, fast and powerful

How the **** is $60 for this considered a bargain ?

    • +2

I like to think of it as the Pilkington Effect

Depends on the quality. Thinking bag to when I was a kid some tracks and magnetic cars were different to others. This kind of thing was one of my favourite baby toys, wish I had more tracks back then.

    • Hape is pretty decent brand, and don't look at Brio prices then.

You can find cheaper at Kmart/Aldi but there's some difference in quality

Likely not enough for a kid to care but enough for me

    WOODFLATION

Bought very similar item from ALDI 1-2yrs ago for $29.99 or lower

    • Same at ikea roughly same price from memory

  • +3

These are compatible with the IKEA trains and tracks. I have it for my son but bought it off marketplace, quality is very good but id never pay RRP for it.

    • +1

Yeah need to be careful mix and matching train sets because some fit nicely, others don't at all.

We had several brands at one point (Brio, Aldi, IKEA and Kmart), and ended up giving away everything but Brio

No, Brio is not a bargain.

    OOS maybe? Back to 117.99

  • So glad my parents kept my many tubs of Brio.
