Am looking at getting a reader for my daughter for her birthday next month, are there any good deals, which is the best one for a child to use?
What is the best Kindle for a 8 year old child to use
Comments
geez show her the library
There is a lot of children's books in e-book format. Some free even. Libraries are also starting to handle e-book "loans".
An 8 yr old is probably a tad too young to use a black and white ebook- almost like reading a newspaper. Children like colours and pictures, it interests them and helps them learn.
Hahaha, what makes you so sure 8 year kids aren't interested in B+W books? There is a lot of children's fiction out there in paperback and they are still selling well.
You seriously think kids will want to read ALL their (picture) books in black and white? Boring much?
Im stating my opinion from how I felt about pic books when I was in primary school, as a girl.It depends on the kid. Some thrive on reading text. Don't sell kids short. And nobody suggested that hsk's daughter should only read e-books.
My 11yro loves her kindle and reads 2 or 3 books a week on it. My 9yro just finished reading Lord of the Rings on my kindle.
My 6yro struggled with Harry Potter on the kindle (and in print).
I would say 8 is a good age if she is confident reading novels. I would buy the cheapest one, there is no need for touch or 3g.
I would suggest you look into cost effective sources of ebooks. If you can get amazon prime (US details required) it opens up an ebook lending library. Of course there is Gutenburg.
And some public libraries here:

I do things like gather together all the hugo award nominees for short stories (sci-fi stuff) and make a book of them from their web pages. Many authors also offer free ebooks as a marketing lead.
And there is a large number of ebooks shared on torrent sites, both free to distribute and less so.
You probably just missed the best Kindle deal! May not be too late to search around
