Are you tired of cheap, but excruciatingly slow flash drives?

The Sony Micro Vault Turbo (USM2GLX) can read 28MB/s and write at up to 18MB/s. It's ideal for transferring large files or even booting an operating system off it. It has a retractable USB connector and a light illuminates when it is in use. Of course, it is Vista ReadyBoost compatible which can help improve the performance and responsiveness of your PC.

General Characteristics

  • Port Type: Type A USB port
  • Interface: USB
  • Maxiumum Transfer Rate (Writing): 18MB/sec
  • Maximum Transfer Rate (Reading): 28MB/sec
  • Capacity: 2GB

According to Sony the retail price is $28.95. Bing Lee are doing them for $9.80. There are plenty in stock at all stores however you will need to ask a salesperson to do the price of $9.80 as the barcode price is much more. They will gladly do this for you and there is no need to print anything off or haggle for hours. Simply ask for the model "USM2GLX" and you won't have any problems. Lowest price on Staticice is $20.12 and of course there are postage fees involved.

Disclaimer: I am a salesperson for Bing Lee and thought I would share this bargain. Even though in other brands 4GB/8GB is only marginally more expensive, the cheaper units use slow, inferior flash memory and take far too long to transfer. Even the SanDisk Cruzer Micro barely gets 7MB/s writing! Will be buying one of my own soon and will answer any questions people may have.

  • does officeworks have these USB's to price match against?

    — oh i see.. its not advertised :(

    • Most deals at Bing Lee are 'negotiable' meaning they are not advertised.

However - they do have the SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2GB advertised for $9.95. Unfortunately this is a terribly slow drive (the old units from last year were great, new ones are excruciatingly slow) and if you live near a Bing Lee the Sony is a much better deal. Sorry!

  • Nice share and thanks for identifying yourself - too many "deals" from interested parties try to hide their association. Being upfront about your interest is refreshing and adds to confidence about the deal.

  • +1

ask them to do a price of 9.80 based on what ?

nm. Bing Lee store is only in NSW. would be nice to state it in the main post

    • Gotta say I'd feel pretty odd trying to explain why I should get the thumb drive for $9.80 to a Bing Lee sales assistant. Feels like I should whisper a secret word or mention the posters name and they'll automatically know what deal I'm talking about.

      • Don't worry mate, you wouldn't believe the type of people they see - there are customers that make up absolutely stupid prices and demand them. If you want to feel a bit more comfortable, say my friend bought this for $9.80 and I want to know if I can get it for the same price too. If you want to make things less awkward try asking for $10.

  • THANKS BINGA,

Went to the Chatswood Westfield, NSW store and got myself 3 for $9.80 each!

Just told the sales assist I heard that it was only $9.80 each and he was like yeah ok and just took them to the checkout and I bought them ^_^

The original price is $59.90…. Wooohhhh

    • Yay :)

I'm picking mine up in a couple of days and want to give them a good test then. If you get a chance, it would be great if you could run HD Tach to see what the read/write speeds are like. Don't worry if it's too much hassle, glad you got a bargain though!

  • Just been to Haymarket (Chinatown) Bing Lee. They don't have any in stock right now, and told me that there will be more coming in 2 weeks time. :(

  • +1

Got two from chatswood. The sales guy didnt even blink when I said can I have then for $9.80. As mentioned by bargaingirl they are price marked at 59.90. Yay feel good!!!!!! Thanks binga for sharing this us.

  • Yeh, sure are fast drives….but 2gb isnt enough for anything these days!

Rather get slower USB with 16gb for less than $60

  • Thanks.
I bought 2 yesterday from Bing Lee at Skygarden in the city.
I just printed out this page and showed it to the sales guy - no issues at all.
Hope this works well for a readyboost drive!
    Cheers.
