Woolworths Mobile 10% off One Shop Per Month Takes 45 Days to Activate!

I’ve signed up to Woolworths mobile 365 day prepaid thinking we will take advantage of the 10% off one shop per month.

It’s still not activated in my account, so I did some reading, and it turns out it takes 45 days from the day you register for this deal to it being activated. How is this not a scam? Woolies even has a calculator to work out how much you can save over 12 months which clearly isn’t going to happen when you lose the first month.

Anyone else see this as a scam? I was disappointed when I read they stopped the 10% off being valid for online shopping mid 2023 but taking 45 days to activate seems excessive.

  • I think the terms have always said up to 60 days before you start getting the monthly 10% discounts.

If you do a reasonable sized shop each month at Woolworths you're essentially getting a free phone plan with your groceries. I'm struggling to see how this could legitimately be described as a 'scam'.

The 45 day delay is presumably to discourage people churning for a few days simply for the discount, then porting out again. There are lots of cheap phone plans where that could be quite profitable.

Also, if you stay with them for longer than 12 months the calculator will be accurate, it's just an initial qualifying period.

Either way, it's a loyalty benefit, and a pretty generous one at that, be happy.

Op is saying it's a scam because it wasn't disclosed well. I doubt they were called a scam if it was in the same font size as the 10% off.

    Misleading perhaps.

Calling it a scam devalues what a scam is.

Don’t know why people always have to cry fire when someone lights a match

Good point. Misleading is the word I should have chosen.

It's literally linked in the signup page:

10% off a Woolworths shop in store every month 1

is a clickable link, and the "1" links to the same page.

On the page you click through, as the very next thing after "How much could you save every month?" (which you were obviously on because you used the calculator), in the same size bold text you find

        How to start saving

Link your Everyday Rewards card to your Everyday Mobile from Woolworths account.1
Within 45 days the offer will be active and appear in the Everyday Mobile from Woolworths app.1
Scan your Everyday Rewards card at the checkout in store and select if you'd like to redeem the offer.

It's not even buried in some obscure clause of the T&Cs. Woolworths go out of their way to point you to precisely this specific information.

Failure to read is not a scam, or even misleading, it's user error.

yeah duh. also, it's less than 45 days. mine was ready after 30 days. so maybe it's upon the second month starting

  • How is this not a scam?

You get 91.6666% of the value?

  • TLDR OP is salty

  • It says in the Woolworths mobile app that "your rewards card must be linked for at least 45 days" so I was of the assumption it would be 45 days minimum.

i kept my discount for 2 months after i churned away from them, so maybe it'll net out?

  • So I'm wondering if you can use the 10% to get a new sim?

  • Complain via online chat and they'll give you a $10 gift card.
